Lead Exhibition Technical Engineer

Location Las Vegas, NV Deadline June 4, 2026 (may be extended) Job Summary We are looking for a candidate with a profound understanding of AVL show networks, AVoIP protocols, network controls, and the physical topology that makes those systems work. The Lead Exhibition Technical Engineer reports to the Exhibition Manager and manages areas of lighting, sound, video, projections, networking, show power, control, automation, interactive game mechanics, computer art installations, and animatronics. The role is responsible for repairs and preventive maintenance of exhibit technology, as well as design and development of enhancements to ensure a robust and consistent guest experience within the exhibition. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership for the team in best practices, standard operating procedures, safety‑related work practices, and documentation of custom interactive artwork. Coordinate maintenance staff to repair and maintain all show systems, record documentation using the Corporate CMMS, and carry out installations, repairs, and upgrades on technical show equipment and systems while adhering to electrical codes, regulations, and standards. Manage parts inventory and software backups, and respond to and resolve technical problems. Implement the expanding goals of the exhibition, engage with design, creative development, programming, systems engineering, mechanical integration, fabrication, and production of new interactive exhibit elements. Assist in training staff on new systems, review and document bug reports and tech failures, collaborate with all Meow Wolf staff within the exhibition and sister exhibitions, keep the exhibition clean, safe, and functional, update media content and programming, install, replace, connect, configure, and test electronic devices and parts, work with the Facility Maintenance team on AC power problems or upgrades, observe guest interactions to conceptualize enhancements, design and implement guest experience enhancements, document as‑builts, upgrades, and changes, maintain processes, procedures, and best practices related to hourly teams, schedule, documentation, employee relations, training, coaching, and development, foster a collaborative team environment, and perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications 3 to 5 years of professional experience in relevant industries, ideally in Emerging New Media Technologies. Proficiency in redesigning or rebuilding of systems and expertise with the Q‑SYS ecosystem. Experience in Entertainment Technology, Software Development, Electrical Engineering, or Professional Audiovisual trades. Great leadership, communication, and team building skills. Excellent organization and project management skills, with a vision for creating robust and consistent systems. Expertise in electrical systems, data distribution, electronics, micro‑controllers, lighting, audio, video, coding, and how they work together. Associate degree minimum, graduate of a Technical Institute, or equivalent certified experience. Competence in networked audio protocols such as Dante, architectural lighting systems (Paradigm & Mosaic/Pharos), TouchDesigner, Max/MSP, other visual programming environments; processing, Arduino IDE, C++, Python; creative technology and physical computing; network engineering principles; cloud‑based architectures, websockets, API integrations; Mosaic control consoles; GitHub and version control. Strong communication, collaboration, self‑management, organizational, documentation, detail‑orientation skills. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated competency troubleshooting embedded systems that incorporate Arduino, Teensy, and Raspberry Pi. Advanced understanding of Max/MSP and TouchDesigner. Show lighting programming, particularly working with ETC systems. Advanced understanding of network engineering and IT infrastructure. Proficiency in programming languages including Python, C/C++, JavaScript; frameworks such as NodeJS, Svelte/React; and protocols OS C, MIDI, TCP/UDP. Familiarity with PCBs, logic circuits, schematics, sensors, prototypes, and layout. Experience with projectors and media servers. Work Environment and Physical Demands Job primarily indoor with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, strong visual effects, strobing lights, special effects, smoke machines, and small enclosed spaces. Outdoor settings may be required. Requires ability to work at heights, move objects up to 75 lbs, use maintenance tools, cleaning equipment, soldering, ladders, aerial work platforms, and power tools. Must follow OSHA standard workplace safety protocols and maintain safe standards for work at heights. Work Schedule Full‑time position with flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Supervisor Responsibilities Position requires supervisory responsibility.
