Registered Nurse

Job Description VTI seeks a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in supporting the Medication Management, Administration, and Distribution Services (MMADS) effort located at Fort Leavenworth, KS. The MMADS effort provides medication management, administration, and distribution services to the Midwest Joint Regional Correctional Facility (MJRCF) and the United States Disciplinary Barracks (USDB). The RN will supervise, manage, and distribute medication to the inmates. Responsibilities Prepare, set up and deliver daily inmate medications. Observe and report any reactions or side effects to medication taken by the inmate. If a potential problem is identified, the RN must request guidance from the Officer-In-Charge of the Health Clinic or the on‑call medical authority. Document the administered medication on the patient’s medication administration record (MAR). Must be able to conduct lifesaving measures in emergency situations, including but not limited to CPR, deploying the AED, bag recitation, assessing and treating trauma, and reading of vital signs. Work closely with all personnel, local hospitals, pharmacies, local and regional mental health professionals, Emergency Medical Services and other health service providers. Maintain medical records and assist patients in complying with prescribed medical regimen. Supervise LPNs and nursing assistants. Qualifications BS degree as a registered nurse plus a minimum of one (1+) year of RN experience within the last two (2+) years. Current unrestricted registered nurse license from either the State of Kansas or Missouri. Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Effective communication skills with all levels of employees and outside contacts. Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, and ability to work independently or as part of a team. Physical Demands Must be able to lift 25 pounds on occasion. Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically. Security Clearance Requirements There are currently no security clearance requirements for this position; however, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check. U.S. citizenship is required.
