You are NOT required to be a member of the Oregon National Guard to apply for this position. The Oregon Military Department is recruiting for an Facilities Maintenance Specialist. This is a permanent full-time state position located at Camp Withycombe in Clackamas, Oregon. This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees’ (AFSCME) union. What You Will be Doing Provide semi-skilled facility maintenance and repair, facility rental administration, and general armory cleaning to National Guard facilities, in support of the Oregon Army National Guard, and the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Branch of the Oregon Military Department, and in compliance with State and Federal laws or regulations, policies, manuals, and procedures. Working Conditions Exposed to loud noises; works from ladders and various types of lifting devices from heights. Exposed to unsanitary conditions. Uses cleaning chemicals several times monthly. Works in windy, cold or inclement weather. Uses power tools; required to push, pull and lift / carry up to 50 lbs. May be required to travel using a state vehicle. Required to perform duties wearing PPE. Occasional work is required outside of normal duty hours to mitigate emergency situations. Required to bend, stoop and stand for long periods of time. This position typically works Mon‐Fri 7am‐3:30pm but, may be required to work nontraditional hours in the case of emergency. What You Need to Qualify Two (2) years of: a) general building maintenance b) carpentry c) electrical d) mechanical e) painting or f) plastering experience. A journeyman's license/card in any of the above trades will substitute for this experience. Be sure a copy of your journeyman's license/card is attached to your application form. Please note: Two (2) years of experience in one or more of the above listed trades is required to qualify, not all. Additional Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record or have reliable alternative mode of transportation. The employee may need to travel while performing duties at the National Guard Facilities throughout the state. Desired Attributes General computer skills that include but are not limited to, sending and retrieving emails, filling out digital order forms, time entry, using a computer to complete assigned trainings, and building operating systems. Have knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE). Conditions of Employment Must have and maintain a favorable Criminal background History check and be able to obtain and maintain a favorable Department of Defense National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Suitability Determination (T1). (Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment, the circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered).
