- Plans public affairs activities for global joint special operations by researching and educating command leadership on media trends, national and regional media environments, and public communication best practices
- Coordinates with information operations and protection functions in support of current and future operations through integrated public affairs planning and execution.
- Leads the development and publication of multimedia and communication products for senior leader use in support of command resources, authorities, approvals, and operational support.
- Represents the command with installation and functional area organizations, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with senior leaders, component commands, and external agencies.
- Monitors national and international information environment trends for deconfliction of command messaging priorities within the military and interagency community.
- Leads planning conferences, operational planning teams, in-progress reviews, back briefs, execution, and after-action meetings related to assigned communication programs.
- Develops and publishes public affairs guidance, orders, and annexes for operations, training, and special events for smooth information flow and even distribution.
- Plans the command's public communication strategy by engaging official government spokespersons and news media representatives to contextualize public releases and protect sensitive information.
- Advises command and senior staff through reports and briefings on public affairs ramifications or consequences of planned operations or events.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

- Must be able to deploy on short notice, often times to an austere and hostile environment.
- A pre-employment deployable physical is required.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
