POSITION SUMMARY :

Responsible for collecting and submitting reliable data to the ACS Bariatric Data Registry Platform. This task is accomplished through high-quality data compilation, documentation, and entry of 100 percent of bariatric procedures performed at the center in the ACS Bariatric Data Registry Platform. Works closely with the members of the bariatric and general surgery departments to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified. Supports the organizational vision and mission.

POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS :

High School/GED required

Bachelor's degree preferred. Ability to complete all training modules and pass the certification examination with a minimum score of 90 percent is required.

Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), required.

Good written and verbal communication skills required.

Ability to read, write and speak English

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :

Minimum one (1) year experience in a hospital surgery department or surgery clinic or with clinical research or medical records. Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required.

Ability to build relationships and gain alignment for clinical support and be able to articulate questions to receive an appropriate level of support from superiors and peers.

Ability to interact with all members of the bariatric surgical team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner.

Computer and internet experience required. A familiarity and comfort with Microsoft Office products is essential for success in this position (Word and Excel experience is required; PowerPoint and Access experiences is preferred).

Database data entry and/or management experience preferred.

Basic statistical knowledge preferred.

Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred.

Able to adjust and/or troubleshoot monitoring equipment, and computer equipment.

Exhibits tact, enthusiasm, and patience.

High degree of competency/experience in general.

Requires good communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :

Data Collection and Reporting:

Identifies 100 percent of bariatric surgery patients for inclusion in the data registry

Collects preoperative, intraoperative, 30-day postoperative, and long-term (six month and annual thereafter) follow-up data components for the program through the effective utilization of the hospital medical record systems and through a coordinated effort with individual surgeon office staff.

Identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection process.

Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the program.

Utilizes software applications for data collection and analysis.

Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of data into the program's database.

Works Effectively with Hospital and Individual Surgeon Office Staff

Establishes effective working relationships with members of the hospital community, especially staff in the surgery, medicine, nursing, medical records, and information systems departments and individual bariatric surgeons' offices whose support is necessary for the management and success of the program.

Serves as an educational resource on the Bariatric Data Registry Platform for internal and external audiences by developing educational material and delivering presentations.

Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practice

Adhere to instructions issued by the department's leadership and perform duties in accordance with established DHR routines, methods and techniques, and in compliance with the recognized policies, procedures, standards and practices and within the state Regulatory Acts

Follows Standard Precautions and OSHA Guidelines. Follows specific precautions (i.e. MRSA, contact, respiratory) as necessary

B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
