About:
The Lead Technician is the most experienced diagnostician on the crew and the standard the rest of the field is measured against. You take the complex calls: communication faults, branch controllers, refrigerant charge, controls. You handle startup and commissioning on new systems, back up the other technicians when a job stalls, and set the example on how our company job is documented and closed out. You report to the Service Manager and work directly with the owner on the commercial accounts. This is a service and diagnostics role first. Installs are part of the work, not the center of it.

Responsibilities

In the field

• Diagnose and repair commercial and residential HVAC, with a focus on VRF/VRV and mini-split systems: Mitsubishi City Multi, Daikin VRV, and conventional rooftop and split equipment. Troubleshoot branch controllers, communication faults, refrigerant charge issues, and electrical and controls problems using manufacturer service tools and wiring diagrams, line and low voltage.
• Handle startup, commissioning support, and refrigerant diagnostics, including NAVAC readings on every diagnostic before it is closed.
• Present findings and repair options to the customer clearly, on site, and get the authorization before the work starts.

Documentation and closeout

• Document the fault, the repair, the parts, and the options in FieldPulse on the company iPad before leaving the job. Every job closed within 24 hours.
• Confirm measurements, parts and scope in writing so the office can order correctly the first time.
• Photograph and note every job so a second visit is never needed because the first one was not recorded.

Leading the crew

• First call for the other technicians when a diagnosis stalls. Walk them through it on the phone or on site.
• Set the standard on arrival time, appearance, and customer conduct. Techs are the product the customer sees.
• Weekly truck checks with the coordinator: stock, tools, filters, refrigerant, so the truck leaves at 8 AM ready.
• Feed the Service Manager what the field needs: parts patterns, recurring faults, jobs that need a second set of hands.

Qualifications

• 5 or more years of commercial HVAC service experience, with at least 2 years diagnosing VRF/VRV systems independently.
• Mitsubishi City Multi or Daikin VRV diagnostic experience. Manufacturer training or certification on either moves you to the top of the band.
• EPA 608 Universal certification.
• Valid NYS driver's license with a clean record. You will drive a company vehicle.
• Fluent reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting electrical and controls faults without supervision.
• Comfortable documenting on an iPad and talking to a property manager or a homeowner with the same composure.
• OSHA 30 and NYC SST. If you have one and not the other, we help you complete it.

Preferred

• Experience with cooling towers, rooftop units, and packaged commercial equipment in NYC buildings.
• Startup and commissioning experience on new VRF installations. Experience training or mentoring junior technicians.
• Spanish, at a working level, for coordinating with the crew. NYC HVAC licensing history or work on filed jobs.
