Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an inpatient Oncology unit at a 5-time Magnet-designated, Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of recent oncology experience and both Missouri and Kansas RN licenses in hand.

Details

• Inpatient oncology unit at a 456-bed tertiary care, Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital
• Primary oncology unit treating all cancer types across all phases of care, from diagnostic workup through completion of therapy
• Administers inpatient chemotherapy regimens
• Serves a uro-gyn and gyn-onc surgical population, providing post-operative care
• Functions as a step-down neuro overflow unit for strokes, head bleeds, and other neurological needs
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
• 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period, with shifts falling on any combination of Friday, Saturday, or Sunday
• Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities
• Charting system: Epic
• Free on-site parking available

Requirements

• Active RN license in both Missouri (or Compact) and Kansas required — both must be in hand prior to consideration; unwillingness to float across state lines may result in assignment cancellation
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of recent oncology experience required, with at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gap greater than 90 days in the past year
• Required skills include: IV therapy and infusions (coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, blood/blood products, port care, central line blood draw and care, infusion pump management), IV medication administration (antibiotics, antiemetics, corticosteroids), oncologic emergency response (sepsis), telemetry interpretation and monitoring, chest tube and colostomy care, Foley catheter management, wound care, neutropenic and isolation precautions, pain management (IV push narcotics, PCA pump, transdermal patches, medication tolerance assessment), post-surgical care, and patient/family education
• Preferred skills include: port access, management of oncologic emergencies (ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation, hemorrhage), hospice and end-of-life care, chemotherapy administration and body fluid handling, recognition of abnormal lab values, tracheostomy care, radiation safety precautions, and biotherapy side effect management
• Previous charge RN experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• 2 professional references required: at least one must be at the supervisor level or above; the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year
• SSN required for consideration

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
• RTO is capped at 7 days for the duration of the contract
• Holiday shifts and charge RN assignments may be required as needed per unit needs
• Block scheduling is not available for this position
• No travel partners accepted
• Completion of facility compliance modules (approximately 10–15 hours) is required prior to the start of the assignment
• A pending MO or compact RN license is accepted
