This Opportunity:
The Regional Field Operations Manager owns field execution performance across all active projects in the assigned region within the DCS Special Projects Program. This role is responsible for regional field capacity planning, superintendent and foreman allocation, crew utilization, mobilization readiness, installation quality, safety performance, and field productivity. The Regional Field Operations Manager operates as the senior field leadership presence across the regional portfolio, typically overseeing 3–4 Superintendents and a field workforce of 40 - 60 technicians across a concurrent portfolio of small-to-mid-sized hyperscale data center structured cabling projects. This role works in close partnership with the Regional Program Manager, Project Managers, and Program Director to ensure the field organization is properly resourced, performing to standard, and positioned to execute the active and upcoming project pipeline.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safety is the main fiber of our network. Follow safe work practices that conform to the Company’s Safety program and customer site policies and procedures.
- Promote company Core Values to foster and safeguard Company culture.
- Own regional field capacity planning across the active and upcoming project pipeline, maintaining a current view of superintendent, foreman, and crew availability and ensuring field leadership is allocated to the right projects at the right time.
- Allocate Superintendents and Foremen to active and upcoming projects based on project priority, schedule demands, site complexity, and individual capability, in coordination with the Regional Program Manager, Program Director and Director of Operations.
- Validate mobilization readiness before each project start, confirming that labor, field leadership, tools, equipment, site access, safety requirements, and logistics are in place before crews are deployed to the site.
- Monitor production rates and field efficiency across all active regional projects, tracking labor productivity (units installed per labor hour) by crew and project against estimate, identifying underperformance trends early, and driving corrective actions in partnership with Superintendents.
- Drive crew utilization across the regional project portfolio, actively managing crew movement between projects to minimize idle time, maximize billable field labor hours, and maintain schedule alignment. Track utilization rate by crew and region weekly and report trends to the Program Director and Director of Operations.
- Enforce installation standards and quality expectations across all regional field crews, ensuring structured cabling installations conform to contract documents, customer-specific standards, and Network Connex quality requirements on every project. Track rework frequency and cost attributable to installation non-conformances and report trends to the Program Director and Director of Operations.
- Identify and drive field productivity improvements across the regional portfolio, working with Superintendents and Foremen to implement better installation sequencing, crew sizing, prefabrication opportunities, and workflow efficiencies that reduce labor cost and improve schedule performance.
- Serve as the primary field escalation point for the regional portfolio, resolving execution constraints, resource conflicts, site access issues, crew performance concerns, and safety conditions that exceed the authority of the Superintendent or Foreman.
- Maintain a rolling 4–8 week workforce forecast for the region, projecting labor demand by project and week against available crew capacity, and escalating capacity gaps or surpluses to the Program Director and Regional Program Manager with enough lead time to respond.
- Own safety performance across the regional field organization, ensuring all crews operate in compliance with site-specific safety requirements, customer safety protocols, OSHA standards, and Network Connex safety policies. Track and report recordable incident rate, near-miss frequency, and OSHA compliance across all active project sites, and ensure all incidents are documented and addressed promptly.
- Participate in operations validation for active RFQs and upcoming project estimates, providing field-level input on labor assumptions, crew sizing, site access constraints, live-site requirements, logistics, and mobilization feasibility before bids are submitted to the customer.
- Lead the weekly Field Capacity Review, providing the Program Director and Regional Program Manager with a current view of superintendent and foreman allocation, crew headcount, active project status, upcoming mobilizations, capacity risks, and safety or quality flags across the region. Report field schedule adherence weekly, measuring the percentage of active projects tracking on or ahead of schedule against baseline.
- Maintain working knowledge of customer-specific site requirements, safety protocols, badging and access procedures, installation standards, and quality expectations applicable to active regional projects, and ensure Superintendents and Foremen are fully briefed and aligned before mobilization.
- Coordinate closely with the Regional Program Manager on project sequencing, field resource prioritization, and upcoming pipeline demands, ensuring the field organization is staffed and ready to execute in alignment with the regional project schedule and backlog.
- Partner with QA/QC to ensure field installation across the regional portfolio meets quality plan requirements, that non-conformances are identified, documented, and resolved, and that quality trends are tracked and reported to the Program Director.
- Develop Superintendents and Foremen within the regional organization, providing performance feedback, coaching on execution standards, and identifying development opportunities that strengthen the overall field leadership capability of the DCS Special Projects Program.
Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Proven field leadership ability with demonstrated experience managing Superintendents, Foremen, and large field crews across a high-volume, multi-project portfolio in a structured cabling or low-voltage construction environment.
- Deep working knowledge of structured cabling installation including fiber, copper, patching, pathway systems, rack and cabinet work, testing, and labeling in data center environments, with the ability to validate field conditions and coach crews on technical execution standards.
- Strong labor planning and workforce management skills, including the ability to forecast field capacity needs, model crew requirements against project schedules, and adjust allocations in real time as project conditions change.
- Thorough knowledge of safety protocols, OSHA requirements, and data center site-specific safety and access requirements, with the ability to lead a safety-first culture across a distributed field workforce.
- Ability to monitor and interpret field production data, identify efficiency gaps, and implement practical productivity improvements at the crew and project level without compromising quality or safety.
- Familiarity with hyperscale and colocation customer-specific site requirements, badging and access protocols, installation standards, and mobilization expectations for high-volume strategic accounts.
- Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage crew allocation, mobilization schedules, capacity forecasts, and field performance tracking across a large and dynamic regional portfolio simultaneously.
- Demonstrated professionalism and ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization including field crews, Project Managers, Program Directors, and customer representatives, including in high-pressure field situations.
- Ability to manage competing field priorities across a large and rapidly changing project portfolio, make sound resourcing decisions under time pressure, and maintain field execution momentum without sacrificing quality or safety standards.
- Clear and direct communicator with the ability to produce concise field capacity reports, workforce forecasts, and escalation summaries for program leadership, and to deliver performance feedback effectively to Superintendents and Foremen.
- Disciplined, self-directed, and operationally driven with a bias for action and accountability. Able to manage a senior field leadership role across multiple concurrent projects and markets with minimal day-to-day oversight.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) for reporting and workforce planning. Familiarity with Procore, Viewpoint Vista, or similar construction management platforms for field reporting and labor tracking is preferred.
- Collaborative field leader who operates as part of a structured program delivery team while maintaining clear personal ownership of regional field execution outcomes, capacity, and workforce performance.
Experience and Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree in construction management, electrical technology, or a related discipline is a plus. Candidates with substantial field leadership experience in lieu of a degree will be given full consideration.
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in the construction, electrical, or low-voltage cabling industry, with at least 3–5 years in a field leadership role as a Superintendent, Field Operations Manager, or equivalent. Demonstrated experience managing field crews and Superintendents across a high-volume concurrent project portfolio is required.
- Direct hands-on field background in structured cabling or low-voltage construction is strongly preferred. Candidates who have worked in the field as an installer, foreman, or superintendent bring essential credibility and practical knowledge to this role.
- Significant experience in structured cabling, low-voltage, or data center infrastructure construction is required. Experience managing field crews in hyperscale or colocation data center environments is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage crew allocation, labor forecasting, and field execution performance across a portfolio of 15–40+ concurrent small-to-mid-sized projects is strongly preferred. Experience managing a distributed field workforce across multiple sites or regions simultaneously is a significant advantage.
- Familiarity with Procore, Viewpoint Vista, or similar construction management platforms for labor tracking, daily reporting, and field documentation is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for workforce planning and productivity reporting is expected.
- Required certifications:
- OSHA-30 Hour certification required. If not certified at time of hire, must be obtained within first 90 days of employment. First Aid/CPR certification is preferred. BICSI Installer II or equivalent structured cabling certification is a plus.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has direct reports. The Regional Field Operations Manager is responsible for the direct supervision, development, and performance of Superintendents assigned to the regional portfolio. Foremen report to Superintendents within this structure. The total field workforce under this role’s leadership typically includes 3–4 Superintendents and 40 - 60 technicians across all active projects in the region.
Work Location and Travel:
Regional with regular travel to active project sites required. This role is field-facing and site presence is expected. Travel within the assigned region is anticipated to average 50–75%, with occasional travel outside the region for program-level meetings or project support as needed.
