Job Description: Veteran Companion & Personal Care Assistant

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Caregiver Companion to provide emotional support, active listening, and light personal care for a military veteran. The ideal candidate will provide a safe space for the veteran to talk, share stories, or simply enjoy quiet companionship, while helping them maintain their independence and dignity at home.

Key Responsibilities

Companionship & Emotional Support

Active Listening: Provide a trustworthy, non-judgmental presence; listen to stories, memories, and daily thoughts.
Social Engagement: Engage the veteran in puzzles, games, reading, or hobbies they enjoy.
Outings: Accompany the veteran on walks, visits to local community spots, or parks.

Light Personal Care & Daily Assistance

Grooming Assistance: Help with light, non-medical activities of daily living (ADLs), such as getting dressed, brushing hair, or putting on shoes.
Mobility Support: Provide physical stability reminders or guidance when moving around the house or getting into a vehicle.
Meal Prep: Cook light, nutritious meals and clean up afterward.
Medication Reminders: Offer verbal cues to ensure medications are taken on time.

Household & Routine Management

Light Housekeeping: Help keep the immediate living area tidy (e.g., loading the dishwasher, wiping counters, doing light laundry).
Errands & Transportation: Drive or accompany the veteran to grocery stores, personal errands, or VA medical appointments.

Qualifications & Skills

Empathy and Patience: A deep respect for older adults and military veterans.
Communication Skills: Strong speaking and active listening abilities.
Background Check: Must be able to pass a standard criminal background screening.
Reliable Transportation: A valid driver’s license and an insured, clean vehicle are required.
Military Awareness (Preferred): Prior experience working with veterans or basic understanding of military culture (and conditions like PTSD) is a strong plus, but not mandatory.

Compensation: $16- $18 Per Hour Weekly Pay
