Position Overview The Lower School Afterschool Program runs daily and is for Lower School students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 4. Afterschool instructors must be able to create enrichment classes for the different age groups from 3:30‑4:30 p.m. and then supervise students who stay until 6 p.m., including help with homework. Instructors are expected to stay current with best practices in elementary education, particularly with girls’ education, and to establish and maintain positive relationships with parents and other faculty/staff members. They must collaborate effectively with other staff and support the school's mission and core values. Supervisor: Director of Afterschool Programming and Enrichment for Lower School Position Status: Hourly, non‑exempt, part‑time, 9‑month schedule Hours of Work: 2:15‑6:15 pm Monday‑Thursday; 2:00‑6:15 pm Friday Essential Responsibilities Help to execute creative, age‑appropriate enrichment activities for students in Junior Kindergarten‑Grade 4 Assist the Lead Instructor to supervise and ensure the safety of students at all times Provide homework assistance and academic support Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and effective program Maintain a positive and disciplined classroom environment, following school protocols Build positive relationships with parents/guardians Physical Demands and Work Environment While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified. Travel Travel is not a requirement for this role.
