Black Seal License preferred where required Supervisory and staff evaluative abilities Required Criminal History Background check and proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Resident Alien Status Alternate Qualifications as the Board of Education deems acceptable Reports To Supervisor, Buildings and Grounds Supervises Custodial Staff of School Job Goal To maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use may be made at all times. Performance Responsibilities Help in the assignment, scheduling and training of members of the Custodial Staff. Supervises and participates in custodial work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency. Assign all such jobs for Custodial Staff with regard to cleanliness of the building. Work out all schedules to cover all activities, to open and close building when events take place, and keep overtime roster, by seniority, as even as possible. Report all absentees, vacations, sick and personal days to Buildings and Grounds Office. Monitor all time records of Custodial employees in the school and certify them for salary payments. (Time Cards – Overtime) Ensure all notices and memos are given to all employees. Make sure all repairs are performed either by Maintenance or Custodial staff, if possible. If a problem exists, or vendor needs to be called, this is reported immediately to the Office of the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds. Maintain an inventory and recommend the purchase of suitable equipment, tools and supplies. Assist with inventory tasks: Rotate all supplies. Keep all necessary supplies on hand. Keep complete control of all supplies. Send monthly Inventory Report to Buildings and Grounds Supervisor. Take care of all inside and outside lighting, and insure repair and bulb changes are made when needed. Make sure all heating and air conditioning units are working properly, and make sure all service is performed and all service calls are made to the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor. Make monthly vandalism report and send to Buildings and Grounds Supervisor. Inspect building for cleanliness at all times. Conduct ongoing inspections to insure safe condition and promptly report area of concern to Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds. Set up for all or any meetings of inside or outside activities. Schedule cleaning for holiday and summer vacations. Make arrangements for cleaning when any activity interferes with cleaning schedules. Make sure that all work areas are secured when personnel are absent, also, ensure all personnel secure their area when shift is over. Report all injuries, all accidents, or interruptions in normal work schedule. Gather all summer repairs for the Maintenance Department to insure that the school is ready to open in September. Make sure all auxiliary generators and lights are in proper working order. Full inspection of fire alarm boxes once a year, also, routine inspection of all fire extinguishers. Supervise for security and fire safety of building and for compliance with local and State laws and Fire Underwriters regarding the storage and disposal of hazardous materials, disposal of trash and recycling requirements. Instruct all members of staff on emergency procedures to be followed upon: Sound of Fire Alarm. Electrical failure. Faulty operation of boilers, electrical and any equipment located inside or outside of the buildings. Make sure all deliveries are logged in and checked. Instruct all members of staff on the complete operation of the boiler plant and heating and electrical controls. Supervision and Evaluation: The Head Custodian shall be the first level of supervising and evaluating the performance of those individuals assigned to his/her respective building. The Head Custodian shall assist the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds in periodic performance reviews of assigned staff and shall make appropriate recommendations to the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds regarding promotion, discipline and/or discharge. Any other duties you are asked to perform by the Buildings and Grounds Office, Business Administrator or Superintendent. Supervises all members of staff for compliance with Integrated Pest Management (IPM), Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and Hazard Communication Standard/Right To Know (HCS/RTK) regulations. Routinely monitor playground equipment / area for safety and perform minor maintenance of mulched areas as needed. Maintain routine inspection log and report all repairs needed to B&G supervisor.
