Ammonia Refrigeration Tech (3rd Shift)

Responsibilities Schedule and perform routine preventative maintenance and services with outside contractors to troubleshoot and repair ammonia refrigeration system. Perform routine preventative maintenance on HVAC, water heating system, and boiler/condenser water chemical system. Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, and/or annual facility and building inspections along with assigned work orders. Assist with refrigeration system inspections and maintain refrigeration logs and records documenting time, material and parts. Ensure housekeeping of all assigned areas, including the ammonia refrigeration engine room, maintenance shop area, and chemicals/parts storage area. Execute work orders in a timely manner based on assigned priority. Operate forklifts and aerial platforms as needed; complete daily Powered Industrial Truck Inspection, ensuring safe operation and reporting concerns to the maintenance manager or shift supervisor. Understand and follow Good Manufacturing Practices, Saputo's food safety, quality programs, regulatory requirements, industry practices, SOPs, LOTO procedures and other safety guidelines. Promptly report all potential quality, food safety, and workplace safety hazards to the management team. Attend and participate in all required training, shift meetings and committees. Work weekends and/or holidays based on business needs and task completion timelines. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ability to read, write, comprehend, and follow verbal and written instructions; possess basic mathematical skills. Utilize manufacturer equipment manuals, troubleshoot mechanical breakdowns, and read mechanical drawings. Run various computer applications applicable to the department and business, including Microsoft Office, CMMS program, and manufacturing and maintenance software. Read and interpret mechanical and electrical diagrams. Successfully complete the Basic Ammonia Operator training within six months of job assignment. Basic electrical knowledge including NFPA 70e requirements. Lift up to 75 pounds; work in cold environments and around moving equipment; maintain good visual acuity with color distinction; perform pump rebuilds, sensor calibrations, and preventive maintenance tasks. High School Diploma or GED, two years associate degree in mechanical or HVAC, and/or two or more years of relevant experience in food/dairy manufacturing (preferred). Familiarity with Ammonia Refrigeration Systems (preferred). Familiarity with process instrumentation, process drawings, and PLCs (preferred). CARO or CIRO Certification preferred; HMI/PLC troubleshooting skills. Ability to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays. Physical Requirements Work in a warehouse environment with noise, cold temperatures, and standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, and maneuvering around material handling equipment and refrigeration systems. Lift up to 75 pounds unassisted frequently throughout the shift. Wear personal protective equipment and follow all established procedures. Good visual acuity with the ability to distinguish colors; required vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Fine manipulation and hand dexterity, including the ability to grip and squeeze; handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms.
