Head Custodian

Coordinates building-level custodial services and performs custodial duties while providing leadership to custodial staff. Works effectively with limited supervision and ensures tasks are completed efficiently to meet building needs and schedules. Checks the daily schedule to determine if school activities require preparation or clean-up. Assists with the set-up and tear down of events as needed. Supervises custodial staff and coordinates work assignments to ensure equitable distribution of workloads and continuity of services during staff absences. Performs regular inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe and clean facilities. Performs assigned custodial duties including cleaning assigned areas; dry mopping and washing floors; cleaning furniture, fixtures, walls, and windows; removing trash; moving and arranging furnishings, supplies, and equipment as directed; cleaning lockers; replacing light bulbs; sanitizing and re-supplying restroom areas; cleaning glass, display cases, partitions, and light fixtures; polishing hardware such as door handles, push/kick plates, handrails, and drinking fountains; vacuuming and cleaning carpets and upholstered furnishings; spot cleaning stains; and cleaning floor mats and runners. Monitors custodial supply inventories and assists with ordering and receiving materials to maintain appropriate service levels. Performs minor repairs and reports maintenance concerns or unsafe conditions. Helps maintain building security and assists with visitor direction and facility use. Maintains clear emergency egress routes and assists with building readiness for fire, health, and safety inspections. Helps maintain outdoor grounds including snow removal and salting sidewalks when necessary. Promotes a positive work environment by supporting teamwork, professionalism, and effective communication with staff, students, and the community. Other job duties as assigned by the supervisor.

High school diploma. Post-secondary training in a trade is desirable. Custodial and basic maintenance skills substantiated by training and/or relevant work experience. General knowledge of building systems such as HVAC, fire suppression, security, and communication systems preferred. Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting and moving heavy items. Maintains a valid driver's license. Collects, records, and maintains data accurately. Applies basic mathematical concepts correctly. Demonstrates dependability and flexibility. Reacts to interruptions and emerging priorities effectively. Embodies high ethical standards and integrity. Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct. Exhibits consistent and resourceful critical-thinking skills. Complies with drug-free workplace rules, board policies, and administrative guidelines and procedures. Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Meets all mandated health screening requirements. Participates in all state and district mandated training sessions.
