Peer Mentor - Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Are you good at math or statistics? Do you like working collaboratively with other students? Are you willing to work with students to help them understand course content and work with faculty in providing support? Then consider working in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics as a Peer Mentor.

This is a student job position - you must be a student at the University of Alaska in good standing taking a minimum of 6 credits for the Fall and/or Spring semester to apply for and work in this position.

Join the Department of Mathematics and Statistics as a peer mentor. As a peer mentor you will be expected to meet regularly with the faculty member, attend class, help the instructor facilitate class activities, set up and hold office hours, run recitations or study sessions, and assist students with study skills. Depending on the course you may be asked to grade activities/homework. To thrive in this role, some tutoring, mentoring or grading experience is preferred. Previous success in the course you would like to peer mentor is also preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have a 3.0 GPA in STEM-based coursework.
Must have passed the course or an equivalent course with a B or better grade.
Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and using written methods.
Must be able to complete UA Tier 1 Required Trainings within 2 weeks of hiring date.
Must be able to log hours daily in TracCloud and log hours during each pay period in UA Online.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha campus in Fairbanks. This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year. Pay starts at $17.53/hr and for up to 20 hours per week. This is a part-time, non-benefited position only open to current UA students taking a minimum of 6 credits.
