Echocardiography TechnologistThe Echocardiography Technologist will perform diagnostic echocardiography exams on incoming patients. The person in this position responds to patient questions and concerns regarding exam procedures and processes, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality regarding personal health information, including but not limited to, patient diagnosis, health history, demographics, and referral information. This person is responsible for all paperwork associated with technical procedures and responds to physician questions and needs regarding patient procedures. Some technologists may work under the direct medical supervision of a physician during certain procedures.Responsibilities include performing all Echocardiography procedures in strict accordance with currently approved practices as outlined in department policy and procedure manuals, complying with all applicable federal, state, local and other regulatory requirements. Duties also include assisting the cardiologist with ultrasound-guided Echo Stress Test, communicating to the patient the nature of the procedure and answering questions clarifying the procedure for the patient, assuring patients' rights and privacy are maintained, responsible for proper documentation and maintenance of all required department records, performing all quality control testing as required, assisting in the transporting of patients, making suggestions to improve work methods, providing orientation and training to new sonographers as directed, producing high quality diagnostic images in a timely manner while providing excellent patient care, treating patients and customers with courtesy, professionalism and respect, monitoring patients' well-being during exam; recognizing patient discomfort or medical problems and taking appropriate action, understanding the methods used to generate ultrasound data and the theory and operation of the instruments that detect, display, and store the acoustic information generated in clinical examinations, understanding the potential bio-effects associated with ultrasound exposure, checking patient history, and obtaining appropriate signed waivers, if necessary, consulting with radiologist when necessary to determine appropriate scanning procedure, completing all paperwork and exam reports associated with technical procedures, responding to physician questions and needs regarding patient procedures, checking referral for appropriate study based on patient history, keeping ultrasound exam rooms and dressing booths clean and properly stocked with supplies, assuring room is ready prior to the patient entering the room (i.e. equipment is operable, all supplies are readily available, and has been appropriately cleaned and prepped), handling delicate situations (fetal demise, cancerous pathology, etc.) in a supportive and empathetic manner ("good bedside manner"), while maintaining appropriate confidentiality regarding exam outcomes or potential issues, keeping patient schedule and accommodating add-on patients when requested, communicating delays or changes in the schedule to the appropriate person(s), exercising sound judgment regarding image quality; seeking guidance from radiologist if concerned about what scan reveals and obtaining prior approval before doing additional scans/views in order to better diagnose the patient's possible pathology, releasing patient with proper follow-up information, monitoring patient library and print films and burns CDs as needed, guiding patients through a sometimes difficult process by kindly talking them through the steps and answering their questions and concerns regarding exam procedures and participating in projects and completing other tasks as assigned by management.Minimum qualifications include current ARRT(S), ARDMS certifications, or ARDMS Registry Eligible, a high school diploma or GED, CPR certification, maintaining license, continuing education, and experience in accordance with state, federal, and regulatory agencies' rules and regulations, ability to relate to the public in a professional and courteous manner, understanding the objectives of the organization, regardless of racial, ethnic, religion, sexual orientation, gender, mental/physical health, age, economic status, etc., familiarity with and ability to use specialized equipment, ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm and appropriate fashion, possessing and utilizing excellent customer service skills, strong written and verbal communications skills, and other medical related skills/knowledge, being detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to interact effectively with doctors, patients, vendors, peers, staff and management.Quality standards include communicating, cooperating, and consistently functioning professionally and harmoniously with all levels of supervision, co-workers, patients, visitors, and vendors, maintaining CEUs and licensing as needed in order to maintain a high level of skill in technical capabilities, demonstrating initiative, personal awareness, professionalism and integrity, and exercise confidentiality in all areas of performance, following all local, state and federal laws concerning employment to include but not limited to: I-9, Harassment, EEOC, Civil rights and ADA, following OSHA regulations, RadNet and site protocols, policies and procedures, following HIPAA, compliance, privacy, safety and confidentiality standards at all times, practicing universal safety precautions, promoting good public relations on the phone and in person, adapting and being willing to learn new tasks, methods, and systems, reporting to work regularly as scheduled; consistently punctual with respect to working hours and lunch schedules, and maintaining satisfactory personal attendance in accordance with RadNet guidelines, consistently adhering to the time management policies and procedures, completing job responsibilities in a quality and timely manner.Physical demands often require sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting reaching with hands and arms, using hands and fingers, handling, speaking, listening, and cognitive thinking. Also, must be able to lift over 50 pounds, occasionally. All employees are to assist and participate as members of a lift assistance team (for special accommodation patients or any patient requiring assistance onto a table or equipment placement) to initiate or complete an exam or procedure.Working environment is an outpatient medical office setting with low to moderate noise level. Pay Range is $42-$50 per hour.
