Emergency Medicine NP/PA Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of emergency medicine experience
• Current credentials and eligibility to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Maryland
• Emergency medicine board certification or eligibility, as applicable to the provider type
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and manage moderate-to-high-acuity emergency patients
• Comfort working collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and specialty consultants
• Completion of credentialing and medical staff approval before beginning clinical practice
• One shadow shift required; two shadow shifts preferred

Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and treat adult patients presenting to the emergency department
• Provide timely emergency care in a department with approximately 65,000 annual visits and no fast-track area
• Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies, including CT, ultrasound, MRI, and bedside ultrasound
• Manage patients across a broad range of emergency medicine presentations and acuity levels
• Collaborate with 24-hour physician and advanced practice provider coverage
• Coordinate care with available specialty services, including Cardiology, General Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, and Anesthesiology
• Recognize patients requiring higher-level trauma care and arrange transfer to designated trauma centers when appropriate
• Document clinical care accurately in Meditech Expanse using available Dragon and DAX Copilot tools
• Participate in orientation, required training, and shadowing activities before independently practicing
