Material Handler

The Material Handler pulls and moves materials required for production orders, customer sales orders, and miscellaneous requests in an accurate and timely manner. This role operates forklifts and pallet jacks, supports shipping and receiving activities, and maintains precise inventory records using manual and computer systems. The Material Handler coordinates material status with planners and manufacturing departments to support on-time customer shipments, and performs all tasks in accordance with quality, DOT, and hazardous waste requirements.

Responsibilities

• Pull material required for production orders, customer sales orders, and miscellaneous requests accurately and on time.
• Utilize standard forklifts and high bay forklifts to move, load, and unload materials safely.
• Assist with shipping and receiving duties, including preparing and processing shipments to meet customer needs.
• Receive incoming material from vendors, completed shop orders, and returns to stock, ensuring all items are counted, identified by lot size, and verified against documentation.
• Place all received materials and supplies in their appropriate stockroom or warehouse locations.
• Maintain control and accuracy of material and inventory records using manual logs and computer-based inventory systems.
• Communicate and coordinate material status information with planners and manufacturing departments to support production and customer shipments.
• Perform loading and unloading of trucks in compliance with quality standards, DOT regulations, and hazardous waste requirements.
• Understand and follow emergency response procedures in the event of a spill or other hazardous material incident.
• Move product throughout the facility using pallet jacks and other material handling equipment.
• Support overall warehouse operations, including organizing inventory, staging materials, and maintaining clear and accurate documentation such as bills of lading.
• Use shipping systems and carriers such as UPS, FedEx, and WorldShip to process and track outbound shipments.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of experience working in a warehouse environment.
• At least 1 year of experience operating forklifts in a safe and efficient manner.
• Proficiency in basic shipping and receiving processes, including preparing shipments and verifying incoming materials.
• Ability to operate standard forklifts, high bay forklifts, and pallet jacks safely.
• Experience working with inventory control in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.
• Ability to accurately count, identify, and verify lot sizes and material quantities.
• Capability to maintain accurate material and inventory records using manual and computer systems.
• Knowledge of basic DOT and hazardous waste requirements related to loading, unloading, and handling materials.
• Ability to understand and follow emergency response procedures for spills and other incidents.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in material handling and documentation.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate material status with planners and manufacturing departments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using shipping systems such as UPS and FedEx.
• Familiarity with WorldShip or similar carrier software for processing shipments.
• Understanding of bills of lading (BOL) and related shipping documentation.
• Experience in a manufacturing warehouse environment.
• Comfort working in a large facility with organized material flow and inventory processes.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minnetonka, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
