THE ORGANIZATION

Tanenbaum promotes justice and builds respect for religious difference by transforming individuals and institutions to reduce prejudice, hatred, and violence. As a secular and non‑sectarian non‑profit, Tanenbaum works to promote religious peacebuilders who help counter extremism and violence in armed conflicts, and tackles religious bullying of students, harassment in workplaces, and disparate health treatment for people based on their beliefs.

THE PROGRAM

Tanenbaum is the global leader in addressing religious bias in the workplace and pioneering religious inclusion and belonging efforts in global organizations. Tanenbaum’s Workplace Program liaises directly with multinational corporations, universities, and not‑for‑profits as they create policies and practices to ensure employees of all religions and none are respected across the workforce, workplace, and marketplace.

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

The Workplace program internship is designed as an educational opportunity for currently enrolled students for in‑depth exposure to best practices for navigating religious diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Students will benefit from a comprehensive overview of the Workplace program, including trainings, resources, and foundational principles designed to address the challenges of building tolerance and connection across religious differences in global workplaces. Depending on individual interests, students will have the opportunity to explore topics reflecting a range of contemporary issues impacting diversity initiatives. This internship is for academic credit or with a university‑funded stipend. Candidates should confirm eligibility with their school’s internship program.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Interns will work under direct supervision and receive feedback and mentorship while developing specialized skills in research, organizing and communicating nuanced information effectively. Responsibilities are designed to support learning and professional growth, including: Content Development: Assist Workplace staff in researching, drafting, and editing programmatic resources to build research skills, with content including holiday fact sheets, specialized client projects, and high‑level presentation overviews and talking points Media Monitoring on Inclusion & Diversity Research and Trends: Support monitoring and research projects on I&D media to build communication skills, with research reports reflecting current political, social, and legal issues impacting diversity trends across industries Conference & Event Preparation: Assist staff in preparation for local, national, and international events to understand professional event planning in an NGO setting. Outreach and Partnerships: Assist in developing background research on partner and potential client outreach to prepare Workplace staff for local, national, and/or international engagements Professional Development and Networking: Participate in weekly Workplace program team meetings to gain insight into nonprofit Workplace initiatives, attend weekly check‑ins with supervisor(s) to discuss learning progress and skills, and work cross functionally across Tanenbaum programs and departments as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (preferred fields: Religious Studies, Divinity, Business Studies/Management) Strong interest in DEI, HR, intercultural communication and organizational development Excellent writing, communication, and research skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and internet research Ability to commit to a structured learning experience with set learning goals

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING

COMPENSATION AND ACADEMIC CREDIT

This is an unpaid internship structured for academic credit or university‑funded stipends. Tanenbaum will work with you and your school so that you can receive academic credit and/or university‑funded stipends for the internship. Candidates should check with their school to confirm eligibility before applying.

WORK PRODUCT

All work produced through this internship is for educational purposes and remains the property of Tanenbaum. Interns will receive structured feedback and guidance throughout their project.
