Overview Veterinary Extern - General Practice role at NVA General Practice . North Country Veterinary Services is a mixed large and small animal general practice hospital in 2 offices with 8-9 DVMs. Responsibilities Follow different veterinarians daily and, under veterinarian supervision, act independently such as conducting physical exams, making diagnoses, monitoring anesthesia during surgeries, and participating in spay and neuter surgeries as the primary surgeon. Gain insight into veterinary hospital management, hospital-related finances, and the role of a veterinary manager. In Small Animal services: manage clinical cases, participate in anesthesia and surgery, complete medical records, and work with veterinarians to diagnose and create treatment plans. In Large Animal services: participate in rural practice activities, dairy herd checks, treat lameness, give IM injections, collect blood from horses, and perform several equine physical exams, with an emphasis on client communication. Eligibility and stipend All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for North Country Veterinary Services - Pulaski is $1,000.
