Duties

The Communication Specialist serves as an expert making sound decisions, while performing a variety of senior level communications assignment and projects. The position provides advisory services on communications initiatives, best practices, and policy development for a variety of communications services within the organization. Duties include:

• Addresses a variety of special, highly sensitive, and confidential communication issues. Completes various communications projects and implements an integrated communications strategy in support of VA's mission and strategic goals.
• Develops and implements the overall strategy, activities, policies and procedures necessary to achieve VA's objectives.
• Provides authoritative advice and guidance to the HRSC Executive Assistant and Human Resource Officer regarding communications outreach and process improvement efforts.
• Serves as an advisor to the Executive Assistant and Human Resources Officer on all matters concerning communication's operational philosophy and outreach efforts agency wide
• Serves as a spokesperson for HRSC and conducts meetings designed to solicit input on HRSC's communications program issues.
• Develops agency wide communication plans which includes, the purpose, strategy, audience, goals, risks, statement/response, top line messaging, action plan, timelines and frequency asked questions.
• Serves as technical authority to create, assess, plan, develop, coordinate, and disseminate information to audiences. Develops messages and materials that are based on communications and marketing strategy, audience research, and concept.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Compressed/Flexible: May be available at Manager's discretion.

Telework: May be authorized in accordance with agency policy. Return to Office (RTO) mandates are in affect and selectees will be required to report to in person work unless they have an approved exemption already in place.

Virtual: This position may be authorized for Virtual Work. Virtual Work eligibility is for current VA employees that are already subject to the return to in person work mandate in their current position. Definition of Virtual Work: Employee works outside of original hiring duty station at a VA owned or leased space.
