CDL Positions HIRING INCENTIVE Effective 12.13.2022 Eligible newly hired candidates hired into a position requiring a CDL will receive an incremental hiring incentive upon satisfactory job performance after completion of 3, 6, and 12 months of service. Valid Driver’s License Incentive: $1,500 (one-time, paid in $500 increments). Class A or Class B CDL Incentive: $3,000 (one-time, paid in $1,000 increments). The incentive is one-time only; no additional incentive upon obtaining the required CDL license. Reports to: Fleet Management Administrator FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Classification: Personnel System; requires successful completion of a six-month probationary period. Pay Grade: 118 Safety Sensitive: CDL – subject to random drug testing per the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance. Purpose of Job The purpose of this job is to assist with coordinating daily shop activities and to perform repairs and maintenance on general ACCGov fleet vehicles and equipment. Duties and responsibilities include coaching and supervising employees, assigning work, processing work orders, maintaining parts inventory, repairing vehicles and equipment, processing warranty claims, researching fleet defects, assisting the Administrator with daily operations of Fleet Management, and performing additional tasks as assigned. Job Related Requirements Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. May be required to work on religious holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Must work cooperatively with others. When vehicle operation is required, responsible for vehicle safety and readiness and must abide by ACC’s safe driving policy. Emergency Position: This position requires attendance at work under all types of emergency conditions, such as inclement weather, utility failure, fire, or other forced evacuations. The employee must be a graduate of an Automotive or Diesel Technical College with three years experience in automotive and heavy equipment maintenance/repair or equivalent education, training, and experience. One year of supervisory experience is required. Must possess a valid Driver’s license and be able to obtain a Georgia Commercial Driver’s License minimum Class B with airbrakes and without restrictions within 6 months. Must possess one relevant ASE certification or obtain within 6 months. Must possess or obtain security training for supervision of inmate workers per Georgia Department of Corrections SOP. Key Responsibilities Supervise and evaluate assigned staff; handle employee concerns, direct work assignments, counsel, discipline, and complete performance appraisals. Assist with daily operations including equipment repair scheduling, personnel scheduling, research of new technology, capital maintenance projects, and preventative maintenance schedule. Coordinate and supervise interns and Work Based Learning (WBL) assigned to Fleet Management. Adjust daily work schedule as needed, assign work to mechanics, review and approve completed work. Perform initial retrofit evaluations, recommend improvements, allocate retrofit time, prepare parts lists. Assist with compiling and preparing the maintenance budget. Diagnose automotive and heavy equipment problems; perform corrective repairs and maintenance. Perform minor body repairs such as glass, bumpers, floor repairs. Perform field repairs and request commercial wrecker service when needed. Coordinate all vehicle body damage repairs, request parts & repair quotes, submit for purchase approval, review for approval. Operate equipment for functional inspections and perform road tests on all department vehicles. Update and repair manufacturer diagnostic and repair software. Use laptop to access manufacturer diagnostic software for vehicle system fault repair. Train assigned positions on maintenance repairs and manufacturer procedures. Assist locating parts, maintain inventory, prepare parts cost estimates, track parts on order. Cleans shop area and maintenance equipment; maintain tools in good condition. Enter incoming/outgoing vehicle work orders and parts into computerized filing system. Weld and fabricate parts. Inform appropriate officials regarding vehicle and equipment damage. Inspect paint and body repair work on damaged vehicles. Assist with preparations of vehicles and equipment to be auctioned. Perform other related duties as required. Principles and repair of gasoline and diesel engines, brake and suspension systems, transmission systems, air conditioning, wheelchair lifts, electronic destination signs, fire suppression systems, video surveillance, automated vehicle location, multiplex electrical systems, automatic passenger counting, diesel exhaust after treatment, federal CDL regulations. Methods, materials, tools, and techniques for repair of unified government vehicles and equipment, preventative and corrective maintenance, electricity, hydraulics, mechanical diagnostics, welding and fabrication. Use of maintenance equipment such as in-ground hoists, brake lathes, 50‑ton presses, bench grinders, tire repair and balancing equipment, electronic test and diagnostic equipment, AC repair equipment. Use of miscellaneous vehicles/equipment such as forklifts, two‑way radios, manufacturer diagnostic software. Personnel concerns and employee morale; reading, understanding, and interpreting personnel reports. Human resource management and personnel practices, policies, and procedures. Use of manufacturer service manuals to diagnose and repair fleet vehicles and equipment. Maintain records, reports, and information effectively, following regulations and departmental policies. Stay updated on changes in policy, methods, operations, budgetary and equipment needs. Communicate with manufacturer engineering staff and technical support to resolve complex system failures. Communicate effectively with supervisors and staff. Use independent judgment in routine and non‑routine situations. Perform required mathematical calculations. Plan, organize, and prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Comprehend and apply regulations and procedures of the department. Physical and Cognitive Requirements Physical demands: ability to operate machinery, use body parts, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, repetitive motion. Medium work level. Data Conception: ability to compare/judge functional, structural, or compositional characteristics. Interpersonal Communication: ability to hear, speak, and signal; receive assignments from supervisors. Language Ability: read and prepare work orders, inspection forms, reports; speak with poise, control, confidence. Intelligence: learn and understand principles; independent judgment. Verbal Aptitude: communicate effectively, follow instructions; skilled in mechanical and electrical terminology. Numerical Aptitude: use math formulas, add, subtract, multiply, divide, determine percentages. Form/Spatial Aptitude: inspect items for length, width, shape using micrometers, dial indicators, tape measures, AC gauges. Motor Coordination: coordinate hands, fingers, eyes accurately using maintenance equipment. Manual Dexterity: use one hand for twisting or turning while coordinating other hand with activities; moderate eye/hand/foot coordination. Color Discrimination: differentiate colors and shades. Interpersonal Temperament: adapt to moderate to high stress, handle emergency and personnel shortages. Physical Communication: talk, hear; communicate via telephone and two‑way radio.
