Registered Nurse In Intensive Care Unit

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a relevant specialty License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Strong knowledge in Cardiovascular and Medical Intensive Care Description: Can sign for 36 or 48 hours per week. The RN to patient ratio is 1:2. First-timers are not accepted. Weekend requirement is every other weekend. Skills required include: - Medical Intensive Care Unit experience - Surgical Intensive Care Unit experience - Interpretation of dysrhythmias - Management of dysrhythmias - Management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure - Obtaining a 12 lead EKG/ECG - Central Venous Pressure Monitoring - Pulmonary Artery Line monitoring - Managing acute and chronic renal failure - Arterial line management - Blood product administration - Central line care and management - Starting and maintaining IVs - Continuous IV sedation - Administration of emergency medications - Titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips - CVA and acute stroke management - Assisting with management of BiPAP - Care of ventilated patients - Interpretation of arterial blood gases - Suctioning (ETT, NT) - Infection prevention - Isolation precautions and use of PPE - Phlebotomy - Care of surgical wounds with drains and wound vacs On-call requirement is not applicable. Clinician may float within the service line to meet facility needs. They are not open to accommodating block schedules. No local candidates will be accepted. Pending licenses are accepted. There are no restrictions on requested time off beyond specified limits. Guaranteed hours include 3 shifts every 13 weeks. Patient diagnoses range from respiratory failure and ARDS to multi-organ failure and sepsis. The unit deals with pre and post-operative cardiac, thoracic, and abdominal surgeries, as well as medicine and neuro-medicine overflow cases. Special equipment includes IV pumps with titration, CRRT, dialysis, ventilators/BiPAP, hemodynamic and invasive monitoring devices, and defibrillators. The facility type is a short-term acute care center with a significant number of staffed beds and a focus on education and trauma services. The scrub color required is navy. Charting is done through a specific electronic health record system. Travel experience is required, and candidates are expected to comply with all deadlines and requirements related to their assignments. Travelers will float within the service line as needed. Candidates should have a strong background in the required skills and be ready to engage in a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care.
