Underwriter (Wholesale)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Underwrite FHA, VA, and Conventional loans, including evaluation of property and appraisal. Provide guidance and mentoring to Loan Coordinators (processors). Provide back-up underwriting to other underwriters within the department, as necessary. Assist Loan Officers and Loan Coordinators with borrower qualifying scenarios. Keep current on FHA/VA/Conventional changes and underwriting guidelines. Proficient in underwriting automated systems: LP, DU & others. Assist in clearing underwriting conditions and meeting doc draw, funding and lock dates. All functions shall be conducted in a manner keeping with the spirit and intent of EHL’s Guiding Values, Balanced Stewardship, and Convictions. Responsible for proactive communication with management, operations, and production, with respect to challenges or opportunities. Respond to Quality Control Audits from internal departments as well as outside agencies. Ability to problem solve and seek solutions to challenges that arise during the underwriter of a loan. Adhere to applicable agency, investor, and internal credit and property guidelines. Provide review times that meet or exceed company expectations. Provide continuous customer service to all loan production staff. Other duties as assigned. Have strong organization skills, the ability to learn quickly, and accuracy/timeliness in completing tasks. Perform all actions in accordance with policies and procedures of the company. Expected to meet productivity guidelines of the position. Effectively use software specific for the position and Microsoft office products. Work well with other members of the EHL team and be willing to fill in when needed. Specific Skills/ Knowledge/ Abilities Required for Position: High School Graduate or equivalent Minimum 3+ years mortgage Underwriter in all aspects of FHA, VA and conventional lending 2-3 years Wholesale lending experience, preferred Good knowledge of property appraisal standards and what minimum property requirements for given loan types and investors Exercise good judgment and strong character, motivated, hard working. Ability to work well with fellow associates, clients and vendors. Good communication skills. Neat, clean, healthy work habits. Physical Requirements: Requires all forms of dexterity and mobility throughout the shift, which may include extended periods of sitting and/or standing. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, twist, climb or balance, stoop, kneel crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to speak and hear, lift and carry up to twenty-five pounds (25 lbs.) or occasionally more. Ability to work in a fast-paced, occasionally noisy environment. May be required to drive for business purposes and if so, must hold a driver’s license in good standing and maintain personal auto insurance in compliance with EHL’s Auto Insurance policy. Compensation: The base hourly range rate for this position is $24.85 - $48.22 per hour, depending on a number of factors including location and experience. If applicable, associate may be eligible for per-file incentives, commissions, bonuses or other variable earnings as determined upon hire.
