Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)

Job Summary

Join our dedicated nursing team at MVHS-Wynn, an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) located in Utica, New York. This 64-bed unit, including 15 designated Neuro beds, specializes in providing comprehensive care to adult patients (18 years and older) with a wide range of complex medical conditions.

As an IMCU Registered Nurse, you will be instrumental in managing patients presenting with neurological, cardiac, trauma, and respiratory diagnoses such as COPD, DKA, Sepsis, MI, CV stepdown, and various post-operative conditions. This role requires a high level of clinical expertise, critical thinking, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic healthcare environment.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care, utilizing specialized equipment, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Floating to other units may be required based on hospital needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct, comprehensive nursing care to adult patients within the Intermediate Care Unit.
• Monitor and manage patients with diverse and complex conditions, including neurological deficits, cardiac instabilities, trauma, and respiratory compromise.
• Operate and maintain specialized medical equipment such as temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, arterial lines, BiPAP, and Neptune Vapo.
• Collaborate effectively with Respiratory Therapy for the management of patients on chronic ventilation.
• Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes using the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards, including floating to other units as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent, acute care experience as a Registered Nurse in an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting.
• Demonstrated proficiency and experience with the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous travel nursing experience.

Skills & Competencies

• Clinical Skills: Advanced cardiac rhythm interpretation, ventilator management (in collaboration with RT), DKA management, sepsis protocol implementation, post-operative care, medication administration, wound care, and comprehensive patient assessment.
• Equipment Proficiency: Temporary pacemakers, Chest tubes, Arterial lines, BiPAP, Neptune Vapo.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional critical thinking, strong communication (verbal and written), teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving, and the ability to manage a diverse adult patient population.

Licensing Requirements

• Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
