Job Title Correctional Sergeant Location California Correctional Institution, Tehachapi, Kern County, CA. Responsibilities The Correctional Sergeant, under the supervision of the assigned Correctional Lieutenant, develops plans, coordinates, organizes and supervises, and directs Correctional Officers in the general security provisions within an Adult Institution. The Sergeant develops schedules and operational methods specific to all secured areas within and outside the Institutional setting, maintaining all security protocols. Responsibilities include ensuring Correctional Officers maintain security and inmate discipline; overseeing collaboration with departmental staff for inmate health care access and provisions; maintaining the safe custody, discipline and welfare of all inmates in the unit; and practicing safe supervisory practices while ensuring compliance with departmental/institutional policies and procedures. Working Conditions California Correctional Institution is located in the Tehachapi Mountains, approximately 325 miles south of Sacramento and 120 miles north of Los Angeles. The facility is a multi-level, sensitive needs yard within a campus-style layout and may require exposure to varied temperatures depending on the season.
