Accountant Position at Wyoming Department of CorrectionsThe Wyoming Department of Corrections, Fiscal Central Office division, is seeking a qualified Accountant to support Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp accounts payable and receivable functions. This position plays a key role in preparing, analyzing, and interpreting accounting records and practices in accordance with the State of Wyoming standards. Our total compensation package includes:Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurancePaid vacation, sick leave, FMLA, and holidaysRetirement - Pension and 457B plans that help you build a secure futureFlexible schedules and work-life balance optionsMeaningful work that makes a difference for Wyoming communitiesHuman Resource Contact: View email address on click.appcast.io or 307-777-6136Essential functions include:Ensuring internal control of the work unit or division.Reviewing and completing documents for A/P and A/R.Reviewing and completing travel vouchers.Maintaining the Central Office annual property inventory.Processing inmate payroll, including child support, court-ordered fines, restitution, and internal obligation payments.Processing daily deposits and financial transaction requests and responding to inmate communications.Preparing, analyzing, and interpreting fiscal information and may carry out special studies.Recommending fiscal policy and methods for improving operations.Participating in agency planning for the next budget period by researching and compiling data utilized in agency budget preparation.Maintaining petty cash fund per established policy and procedures.Maintaining fixed assets on WOLFS.Determining accurate dollar amounts to be billed to each agency for a statewide billing system and generating monthly billings.Performing a variety of routine tasks in the acquisition, disbursement, and inventory of equipment, supplies, and commodities.Reviewing and approving department WOLFS documents for A/P and A/R.Managing grant/project budgets in WOLFS.Coordinating fiscal functions for all grant coordinators in the department.Ensuring statutory compliance by internal and external stakeholders.Preferences:Preference will be given to applicants with 3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance or Accounting) and knowledge acquired at an accounting technician level. Preference will be given to applicants with WOLFS experience. Preference will be given to applicants who can create and manipulate Excel spreadsheets.Knowledge:Knowledge of purchasing procedures.Knowledge of internal control processes.Knowledge of accounting principles, techniques, and systems.Skill in Microsoft Excel.Knowledge of Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards and General Acceptable Accounting Procedures (GAAP)Minimum qualifications:Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Finance) Experience: 0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Accounting Technician OR Education & Experience Substitution: 3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Accounting Technician Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: NonePhysical working conditions:Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, lifting, and carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc.Exposure to inside and outside environmental conditions.Lifting/grasping up to 50 pounds without assistance on a regular basis.Walking on cement floors regularly.Stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching regularly.Reaching on a regular basis.Typing/Repetitive motion is frequent.Talking/hearing frequently.Seeing: the visual ability to perform an activity such as analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.Notes:FLSA: Non-ExemptThe State of Wyoming is an Equal Opportunity Employer and actively supports the ADA and reasonably accommodates qualified applicants with disabilities.The Wyoming Department of Corrections is a Drug-Free Workplace.
