SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under general supervision, performs technical tasks in the operation of the wastewater collection system. Must be able to interrupt GIS maps. Knowledge of different types of cleaning nozzles.
Depending on the applicant's experience, licenses, and skills, the position can be filled at the Level I, Level II, or Level III.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
When Assigned to Combo Vac Operator I:
- Operates Combo Truck with limited Supervision.
- Maintain all combo truck equipment (nozzles, wands, vac cans).
- Reads and understands GIS map.
- Responds to emergency sewer request.
- Independently manages service requests, work orders and service requests in City Works.
When Assigned to Combo Vac Operator II:
- Duties of Level I carry over, in addition to:
- Operates combo truck with no supervision.
- Operates skid steer (Clean dump station).
- Clean large and small diameter sewer pipes.
- Select appropriate cleaning nozzles for different pipe applications.
- Makes field GIS changes and delivers to GIS staff for data entry.
When Assigned to Combo Vac Operator III:
- Duties of Level I & II carry over, in addition to:
- Trains employees on all operations with use of combo truck and best practices for sewer televising.
- Makes competent person decisions in the field for confined space entry with no supervision.
- Works with the Project Analyst to schedule routine task.
- Familiar with CMOM operations and best practices.
- Responds to emergency sewer request as the primary responsible field employee.
- Possesses advanced knowledge of cleaning nozzles selection and use.
- Possesses advanced knowledge of sewer cleaning best practices and operations for large and small diameter pipes.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Requires the ability to exercise the judgment required in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by set procedures or sequences.
- Requires the ability to perform coordinated movements involving placing and turning motions, such as operating a TV camera for sewer lines, backhoe, flusher and dump truck and trailer, front-end loader, air compressor, gas and electrical pumps, and various hand tools.

Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
For level I: Equivalent to a High School diploma and/or GED and a Texas Class A CDL with tankers endorsements and must have a TCEQ Wastewater License
For Level 2: Must meet the requirements of Level I, and have a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience with a combo truck,
and must have a TCEQ Level II Wastewater License. Must complete the Sewer Cleaning 101 course (NEZAT Training), or equivalent course
Demonstrates City's core values of Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence. Implements the City's vision in delivery of services and shows leadership in daily activities and through actions and sets an example for others to follow.For Level 3 : Must meet the requirements of Level I & 2, and have a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience with a combo truck. Must meet experience for selection and application of cleaning nozzles for appropriate use. Must have a TCEQ Collection III license. Must have completed NIMS 100 training course.
Must have completed Competent Persons Training Course. Demonstrates City's core Values of Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence. Implements the City's vision in delivery of services. Shows leadership in daily activities and through actions and sets an example for others to follow.Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must pass a drug screen and background check.
- Must have a Texas Class A CDL with tankers endorsement
- Class C Texas Driver's License.
- During storms or natural disasters, staff will be divided into two 12-hour shifts.
- During storms or natural disasters, staff may be called in while on vacation.
Physical Demands/Supplemental
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 250 pounds). Some tasks require visual and odor perception and discrimination.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
There is limited exposure to environmental conditions. Task may require exposure to strong odors and/or smoke, traffic hazards, extreme heat/cold or extreme weather conditions.
