Clinical Associate - PRN

About the Job Schedule: Mondays to Wednesdays from 8:30AM to 5:30PM MedStar Health is looking for a Clinical Associate to join our team at MedStar Ambulatory Services! The role involves clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under physician/provider supervision. Duties include documentation of medical history, vital signs, EKGs, event monitor hook‑up, chart preparation and assisting providers with patient exams. The position may float to other ambulatory sites/locations within the system. Primary Duties Document clinically related activities accurately in the patient’s medical record. Provide telephone screening services to gather information. Contact insurance companies to obtain pre‑authorizations for patient medications and specialty referrals, including insurance authorization. Assist with registering patients, including insurance verification and collection of copays. Screen all patients for potential preventative care needs, ongoing support, barriers to care, safety concerns and urgent/emergent medical conditions, and potential fall risk. Assist provider with patient preparation for the examination, minor office procedures, and education of patients. Perform lab draws, EKGs and event monitor hook‑ups. Participate in population management activities, including awareness of the populations served and engagement of patients in self‑management support, goal setting, pre‑visit planning, and capturing information that leads to health care improvement activities. Conduct surveillance for transitions of care, emergent care, or follow‑up tasks such as retrieval of documents associated with referrals/testing. Identify potential behavioral health needs of patients based on medical history using appropriate screening tools and notify the provider of findings. As part of a High‑Reliability Organization, report actual and potential problems concerning patients, families, and associates and participate in ongoing performance improvement initiatives to increase safety. Occasionally be tasked to ensure ongoing compliance by maintaining and auditing temperature logs, ensuring all supplies including medications are current/unexpired, and checking and maintaining emergency equipment. Qualifications High School Diploma/ GED. Customer service experience or prior experience in a healthcare organization. Experience working with electronic medical records preferred.
