Controller

Overview Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the company's accounting and financial operations. This role is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and internal controls while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the organization's financial information. Reporting directly to firm leadership, this individual will manage all back‑office financial functions, including accounting, trust accounting, payroll, financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, and compliance. Experience supporting professional services organizations is highly preferred, particularly within law firms, legal marketing agencies, digital marketing agencies, or other fast‑paced, client‑service businesses with complex financial operations. Responsibilities Oversee all day‑to‑day accounting operations, including AR/AP, payroll, general ledger, and bank reconciliations. Manage attorney trust accounts and ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. Manage cash flow forecasting and monitor the company's financial position. Prepare annual budgets and financial forecasts while providing variance analysis and recommendations. Ensure compliance with GAAP and all federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements. Lead the month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. Oversee tax filings, business licenses, and regulatory reporting requirements. Provide financial analysis to support business decisions and operational improvements. Assist with system implementations, process automation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. Experience supporting professional services such as law firms or legal marketing. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements. Experience managing the full accounting cycle and financial close process. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar ERP systems). Experience with payroll systems and financial planning tools is a plus. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Key Skills Experience overseeing payroll, accounting operations, and cash management. Strong business acumen with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights. Experience supporting executive leadership with strategic financial planning.
