RN Post Anesthesia Care Unit

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to adult patients recovering from surgery in a high-volume, high-acuity Level 1 trauma center. The role requires working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, ensuring effective communication and patient safety during the post-operative recovery period. PACU experience is required, with ICU experience preferred. Responsibilities:

• Monitor and assess post-operative adult patients recovering from anesthesia.
• Provide skilled nursing care tailored to patient needs in the PACU setting.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure quality patient care.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
• Respond promptly to patient needs and emergencies in the PACU.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient status and care.
• Adhere to unit standards of positive attitude and direct communication.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license (New York State only).
• Minimum of two years nursing experience.
• Experience in PACU required.
• American Heart Association BLS certification.
• American Heart Association ACLS certification.
• Strong communication and independent working skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• ICU nursing experience.

Special Considerations:

• Work in a fast-paced, high-acuity Level 1 trauma center environment.
• Positive attitude and direct communication are unit standards.
• Must be able to work holidays, weekends, on-call, and call back as needed.
• Experience with electronic health records such as EPIC preferred.

Scheduling:

• 36-hour work schedule with rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Shift assignments include holidays and weekends.
• On-call and call back duties as required.
