Surgical Technician - PRN

Job Title: Scrub Technician / Surgical Technician - PRN Company: Eye Surgery Center of New Albany Location: New Albany, IN Applicants with the following backgrounds/experience: science majors, veterinarian or dental technicians, ophthalmic/optometry technicians, LPNs, in-office sterile procedures. Training will be provided. Hours PRN Our surgery center is open Monday-Friday 6am-5pm. Your shift will fall within those hours. You may need to work a little earlier/later as needed. No late nights, weekends, on-call shifts, or holidays! Requirements High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Positive background check Basic computer skills Strong customer service skills Excitement to learn and grow Summary Assists in surgical operations under the supervision of Surgeons, Registered Nurses, and Surgical Assistants. Assists in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established Federal, State, and accreditation standards and company policies and procedures. Assists the Nurses and Surgeons in delivering the highest standard of patient care available. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform duties in an ethical and legal manner within the scope of certification. Comply with HIPAA regulations. Scrub all types of cases performed at the company. Anticipate the needs of the Surgeon and keep equipment, medical gases, and supplies readily available. Participate in continuing education/in-service training, staff meetings, and QAPI program. Maintain knowledge of central and sterile supply department. Open sterile packs according to sterile technique and prepare instruments as needed. Set up surgical instruments, ensure equipment works properly, label sterile solutions. Gather supplies and equipment in the room. Maintain record of medication used intra‑operatively, specimens retrieved, tissue implanted, implants, liquids or chemicals on field. Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgical assistants. Hold retractors, cut sutures, help count sponges, needles or blades if applicable. Prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis. Operate sterilizer, lights, suction, and other operating room equipment and diagnostic equipment. Assist in patient transfer to PACU if needed. Clean and restock operating room. Assist with any technical function under supervision to carry out a safe operation. Prep, drape, and position the patient for surgery. Prepare for case according to Surgeon’s preference card. Gathers supplies needed and anticipates needs for case. Assist in orientation of new staff when needed. Actively participate in the development of a healthy work environment. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Prioritize, plan, and implement patient care within the scope of practice. Handle stress associated with prioritizing multiple tasks. Manual dexterity to handle instruments. Emotionally conscientious, orderly, and emotionally stable to handle the OR environment. Ability to adhere to work schedule, be organized, manage time effectively and in a cost‑effective manner. Above‑average organizational skills. Effective teamwork. Above‑average communication skills: verbal and written. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Two (2) years of hospital main operating room experience preferred. Licenses and Credentials BLS certification required. CST certification preferred. Systems and Technology Knowledge of Amkai Charts Database software and Microsoft Word. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook. Physical Demands Role requires frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%), with regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%). Lifting up to 25 lbs, frequent use of hands, strong fine motor skills, visual and auditory acuity required 100% of the time. Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary.
