Instructor

Lowndes Advocacy Resource Center, Inc. (LARC) is seeking a full-time Instructor to join our team in Valdosta, GA. This is a salary-based, on-site position serving adults with developmental disabilities. LARC is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities through individualized support, advocacy, inclusion, and opportunities for independence and self-determination. Services are guided by the choices, preferences, and goals of the individuals we serve. Position Summary Under general supervision, the Instructor provides direct instruction, training, and support to adult individuals with developmental disabilities in a day center and community-based setting. The Instructor develops and delivers individualized and group activities designed to promote personal, social, life, and vocational skills, while adapting instruction to meet each individual's abilities, learning style, and support needs. The Instructor is responsible for maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment; monitoring individual progress and behavior; completing required documentation; and supporting individuals in meaningful community participation and integration. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide direct instruction and support in personal, social, life, and work-related skills. Develop and implement individualized and group lessons, activities, and training based on individual needs, abilities, interests, and person-centered plans. Adapt teaching methods and activities to accommodate diverse learning and support needs. Encourage independence, self-determination, social interaction, and participation in the community. Assist individuals with daily routines and personal needs as appropriate. Observe and monitor individuals to identify changes in behavior, physical condition, or other concerns and respond appropriately. Maintain a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment. Utilize appropriate crisis-prevention and de-escalation techniques when necessary. Transport individuals to community activities, employment-related activities, recreational activities, and other approved outings using agency vehicles. Complete accurate daily, monthly, bimonthly, and other required documentation, progress notes, and reports. Monitor and document individual progress, participation, activities, and outcomes in accordance with program requirements. Communicate effectively with individuals served, families, caregivers, case managers, coworkers, and other service providers to promote consistency and quality of care. Participate in staff meetings, required training, and professional development activities. Follow all agency policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable program guidelines. Support LARC's mission of providing person-centered services and advocating for the rights, choices, and well-being of individuals with disabilities. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required High school diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum of one (1) year of experience providing social services, direct care, or support to individuals with disabilities or other special needs . Valid driver's license and current vehicle insurance. Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screening. Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic or written documentation. Ability to work full-time on-site in Valdosta, GA. Reliable attendance and ability to meet the physical and professional requirements of the position. Ability to perform moderate lifting as required. Preferred Post-secondary education in special education, social services, human services, education, or a related field. Previous experience providing instruction, training, direct support, or services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Experience with person-centered planning, community integration, or vocational support. Familiarity with behavior-support, crisis-prevention, or de-escalation techniques. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with individuals with diverse abilities and support needs. Ability to plan, deliver, and adapt instructional activities. Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail. Sound judgment and ability to recognize and respond appropriately to behavioral or physical concerns. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, dignity, respect, and individual choice. Commitment to person-centered practices and advocacy for individuals with disabilities.
