Surgical Technologist

Under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technologist is responsible for the care and safety of the patient during surgical procedures. The Surgical Technologist provides technical assistance in the Operating Room. Knowledge relative to the ages of the patients served is essential. Essential job functions include preparing the room for surgical procedures in a timely and organized manner. The Surgical Technologist practices the principles of asepsis. Cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing all equipment in the Operating Room is required. Coordinating care of the patient with the RN Circulator is a key responsibility. Stocking and replacing surgical items is necessary. Preparing the inventory sheet for surgical items is part of the role. Maintaining a sterile field during surgical procedures is crucial. Assisting the physician during surgical procedures is required. The Surgical Technologist ensures that correct instrumentation is organized and available. Following verbal physician orders in the operating suite is expected. Handling surgical specimens is part of the job duties. Compiling the necessary equipment on the surgical field is required. Timely documentation of unusual occurrences and other forms is necessary. Performing CPR as needed is part of the responsibilities. Correctly and proficiently using all applicable instruments and equipment is essential. Cleaning and wrapping instruments for sterilization is required. Transporting patients to and from the Operating Room is part of the duties. Monitoring surgical equipment maintenance and repairs is expected. Completing duties as a technical scrub in the Operating Room is required. Preparing rooms and equipment for endoscopy procedures is part of the role. Maintaining a cooperative disposition within the Operating Room is essential. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
