Safety Advisor (Data Center Construction & Telecommunications)

Location: Abilene, TX 79601
Schedule: Typically 60-72 hours per week
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Pay: $45.00/hr Straight Time | $67.50/hr Overtime

Position Overview

Insight Global is seeking an experienced Safety Advisor to support Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) initiatives across large-scale data center construction, fiber optic, utility, and telecommunications infrastructure projects. This individual will partner closely with operations leaders, contractors, and customers to drive a proactive safety culture, ensure compliance, and promote safe project execution across multiple worksites.

Reporting directly to the EHS Director, the Safety Advisor will serve as a key field resource with the authority to escalate safety concerns and stop work when critical safety controls are not in place.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership & Culture

• Promote and reinforce a proactive safety culture across data center and field operations.
• Coach employees and contractors on safe work practices and leadership accountability.
• Maintain a strong field presence and provide hands-on EHSS support.
• Exercise stop-work authority when imminent hazards or unsafe conditions exist.

Construction & Field Operations Support

• Provide EHSS oversight for data center construction, fiber optic installation, utility, and telecommunications projects.
• Support aerial and underground construction, directional drilling, trenching, utility make-ready work, network expansions, maintenance, and warehousing operations.
• Ensure safe and compliant execution across multiple project sites and geographic regions.

Risk Management & Compliance

• Conduct site inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and safety observations.
• Lead risk mitigation efforts through Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and pre-task planning.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, AFL standards, and customer safety requirements.

Contractor & Customer Engagement

• Serve as the primary EHSS liaison between AFL, customers, contractors, municipalities, and utility providers.
• Support customer audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
• Drive contractor safety performance through onboarding, coaching, field observations, and corrective actions.

Incident Investigation & Emergency Response

• Lead or assist with investigations involving injuries, vehicle accidents, utility strikes, property damage, and near misses.
• Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective actions.
• Support emergency preparedness efforts and incident reporting requirements.

Training & Continuous Improvement

• Deliver safety onboarding, refresher training, toolbox talks, and task-specific EHSS training.
• Track safety metrics, audit findings, incident trends, training completion, and compliance observations.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of safety experience supporting construction, telecommunications, utility, or field operations.
• Experience managing safety programs in multi-employer construction environments.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and telecommunications construction safety practices.
• Experience supporting aerial, underground, utility, broadband, or fiber infrastructure projects.
• Proven ability to influence field teams, contractors, and operational leaders without direct authority.
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Compensation & Schedule

Pay Rates

• Straight Time: $45.00/hr
• Overtime: $67.50/hr
• Paid weekly by Insight Global every Friday

Estimated Weekly Earnings

• 60 Hours: $3,150/week
• 70 Hours: $3,825/week
• 80 Hours: $4,500/week

Calculations based on 40 hours at the straight-time rate plus applicable overtime hours at the overtime rate.

Estimated Annual Earnings

• Approximately $163,800/year based on a typical 60-hour workweek.
