Quality Technician

Overview

We are seeking a QA Technician to join a manufacturing team in Kansas City. This position is responsible for performing quality inspections and testing on products throughout the manufacturing process, ensuring products meet established drawings, specifications, standards, and customer requirements.

The QA Technician will work closely with Production, Operations, Engineering, and other Quality team members to identify quality issues, maintain accurate inspection records, and support continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

• Perform in-process and final product inspections, including dimensional and coating inspections
• Verify finished products meet drawings, work orders, specifications, and quality standards
• Perform visual inspections of welded joints for proper weld size, bead formation, penetration, and potential defects
• Inspect incoming raw materials, components, and finished products for compliance
• Perform required product testing and document results with photographs and inspection records
• Maintain accurate inspection and testing documentation
• Assist with calibration of inspection instruments and gauges
• Review Material Test Reports (MTRs) and Initial Sample Inspection Reports (ISIRs)
• Conduct product and process audits and document findings
• Assist with training production employees on quality requirements
• Communicate quality concerns with Supervisors, Operations, Engineering, and Quality personnel
• Perform additional quality-related duties as assigned

Skills and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Manufacturing or industrial experience
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality issues
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and stay organized
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic shop math, including fractions and decimals

Preferred:

• Experience in a steel fabrication or manufacturing environment
• Experience with arc welding processes
• Knowledge of carbon, stainless, or alloy metals
• Experience with liquid or powder coatings
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
• Experience using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
• Familiarity with ASTM, AWWA, AWS, or ASME standards
• Experience with dye penetrant, magnetic particle, dry film thickness, or other inspection/testing methods
