The Reading Intervention Paraeducator supports student literacy development through targeted reading intervention services delivered in both push-in and pull-out instructional models. Under the direction of certificated staff, the paraeducator works with individual students and small groups to reinforce foundational reading skills, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and writing readiness using evidence-based instructional practices and intervention programs. This position supports students identified for intervention services through programs such as LAP, Title I, MTSS, and other supplemental academic support services. The Reading Intervention Paraeducator collaborates closely with teachers, interventionists, and administrators to help improve student academic outcomes and support a positive and culturally responsive learning environment. ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

- Provide literacy intervention support to students individually and in small groups under the direction of certificated staff.
- Support students through both push-in classroom support and pull-out intervention models.
- Reinforce foundational reading skills including phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language support.
- Implement evidence-based intervention strategies and instructional programs as directed by certificated staff.
- Assist with academic interventions aligned to MTSS, Title I, LAP, and other supplemental support programs.
- Monitor student engagement and provide encouragement, redirection, and academic support to promote student success.
- Assist in administering and scoring literacy assessments, screenings, and progress monitoring tools.
- Collect, organize, and maintain accurate student intervention data and records.
- Support classroom teachers and intervention staff in preparing instructional materials and learning activities.
- Assist with differentiated instruction and accommodations for students with varying academic needs.
- Foster positive relationships with students while maintaining high expectations and a supportive learning environment.
- Support culturally responsive instructional practices that honor Native students, families, and communities.
- Maintain regular communication and collaboration with teachers, interventionists, specialists, and administrators.
- Assist with supervision of students during classroom and school activities as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as required.
- Maintain professional conduct, confidentiality, and appropriate boundaries with students and families.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Possess a high school diploma or recognized equivalent (GED).
- Meet Washington State paraeducator requirements through one of the following:
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits); or
- Associate degree or higher; or
- Passing score on the Washington State approved paraeducator assessment.
- Proof of qualifications must be included with application materials.
- Must complete the Washington State Paraeducator Fundamental Course of Study requirements within state timelines.
- Previous experience supporting reading intervention, literacy instruction, or elementary education.
- Experience working with small group instruction and academic intervention programs.
- Knowledge of evidence-based literacy practices or structured literacy approaches.
- Experience working in a school setting with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
- Bachelor's degree or coursework in education, literacy, child development, or related field.
- Knowledge of Native American cultures, traditions, and values.
