Tribal Energy Planning and Efficiency Cohort Organization/Grantor: Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP), Tribal Energy and Climate Collaborative (TECC) Position/Title/Fund: Tribal Energy Planning and Efficiency Cohort Type/Term: 6-month-long learning experience Location: California Deadline: December 12, 2025 Description: Thank you for your interest in ITEP/TECC Tribal Energy Planning and Efficiency Cohort, a 6-month-long learning experience taking place from January 2026 through June 2026. The cohort is hosted by the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) and the Tribal Energy and Climate Collaborative (TECC), and will bring together Tribal leaders, Tribal community members, Tribal environmental professionals, and Knowledge Holders from across California. ELIGIBILITY: The cohort is open to all Tribes in California, regardless of recognition status, as well as employees of associated Tribal non-profit organizations. COHORT GOALS : Participants can expect to begin developing a Tribally self-determined strategic energy plan and learn about energy efficiency actions. In particular, the cohort will focus on providing tools and resources to complete an Energy Needs and Opportunities Assessment as a key component of a strategic plan. COHORT STRUCTURE : Over the course of the cohort, cohort members will participate in interactive meetings (virtual via Zoom, 1.5 hours each) that feature opportunities for peer-to-peer learning, presentations from energy experts, and Tribal case studies. In addition, cohort members will have the opportunity to expand their network of Tribal colleagues working on energy issues in California, and receive direct support from ITEP and TECC staff through one-on-one technical assistance. Cohort members will also have the opportunity to attend an optional in-person retreat in Spring 2026. WHEN/WHERE: The 6-month-long cohort will take place over a series of virtual meetings, approximately every two weeks, from January through June 2026. Cohort members will also be invited to an in-person retreat in Spring 2026. The cohort will start on Thursday January 15, 2026, and virtual meetings will take place every other Thursday from 9:00 -10:30 am Pacific time. KEY TOPICS: Engaging leadership and the larger community; assessing current energy conditions, needs, resources, and opportunities; identifying energy goals; and exploring energy efficiency measures and audits.
