Peer Mentor at Gavilan College

Gavilan College Peer Mentor program in Gilroy, CA is looking for current Gavilan College students to join our 12 person strong team. Our ideal candidate is self-driven, motivated, and reliable.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for helping Gavilan's diverse population of students apply, enroll, submit financial aid documents, make counseling appointments, and connect to categorical programs therefore, attention to detail and a high level of responsibility is essential. Peer Mentors work in a fast-paced environment and must have strong interpersonal, communication, customer services skills, work one-one and with groups of students, and they work in the classroom. Additionally, students in this position must work well with students, staff, and faculty, as well as in a team environment or independently. Peer Mentors may work in the Welcome Center and/or as peer support for students.

Qualifications

Current Gavilan College Student enrolled in at least 6 units for Fall or Spring

Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 (2.7 is preferred).

Have taken or willing to take Psyc/Guid. 52-Peer Mentoring (1 Unit) OR Guid 28 Tutoring Techniques (1 Unit)

Have successfully completed at least one full semester in the past year

Have at least one full year left before graduation

Have successfully completed all new college student requirements:

Assessment and a Comprehensive Education Plan.

Bi-lingual Spanish/English is helpful but not required
