Controls Engineer (AGV Systems)
Location: Charlotte, NC
Pay: $115,000 – $125,000
Travel: ~30% (otherwise office-based)
We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer with exposure to AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) systems to support the design, implementation, and deployment of advanced material handling solutions. This role is a mix of hands-on engineering, customer interaction, and system integration, with opportunities to work both in-house and at client sites.
Key Responsibilities- Design, program, and implement AGV systems for industrial applications
- Support system integration, testing, installation, and startup at customer sites
- Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and system modifications
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project timelines and deliverables
- Train customers and internal teams on system functionality and best practices
- Maintain accurate documentation including reports, manuals, and system updates
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and continuous improvement initiatives
- 5+ years of experience in industrial automation
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming and structured text (Codesys preferred)
- Exposure to AGV systems required
- Strong understanding of electrical systems (including 480V, controls, and mobile equipment)
- Ability to troubleshoot, program, and integrate complex automation systems
- Experience with CAD is a plus
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with customers
- Self-starter who can work independently and on a team
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment
- Ability to travel up to 30%
