Purchasing Coordinator

Production Control Purchasing CoordinatorWe are hiring a Production Control Purchasing Coordinator to manage the ordering and tracking of components, raw materials, and production supplies. This position plays an important role in maintaining appropriate inventory levels, supporting manufacturing schedules, controlling freight costs, and preventing production disruptions.The ideal candidate has previous purchasing, inventory, materials, or production control experience and is comfortable working with numbers, inventory data, suppliers, and internal manufacturing teams.Key ResponsibilitiesPlace purchase orders for assigned components, parts, and raw materialsMonitor orders and track deliveries to ensure materials arrive on scheduleMaintain inventory levels within established company targetsMonitor inventory turns and identify potential shortages or excess inventoryControl and monitor freight costs, including identifying opportunities to reduce premium freightPerform quarterly and as-needed cycle countsInvestigate inventory discrepancies and identify root causesAssist with developing and implementing corrective actions for inventory issuesSupport production requirements by ensuring materials are available when neededParticipate in meetings and represent the purchasing function as neededSupport new product and program launches for assigned parts and materialsMonitor product and program phase-outs to minimize obsolete inventoryResearch alternative uses for obsolete parts and materialsComplete required production control and purchasing documentationCross-train within the department to provide additional support when neededParticipate in continuous improvement initiatives and manufacturing improvement programsSupport company quality and certification requirementsWork closely with purchasing, production, warehouse, suppliers, and other internal departmentsPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsRequiredHigh school diploma or equivalentPrevious experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory control, materials, production control, or a related fieldStrong math and analytical skillsExcellent attention to detailStrong verbal and written communication skillsGood problem-solving and decision-making abilitiesAbility to work independently and manage multiple prioritiesTeam-oriented and self-motivatedComfortable working with computers and Microsoft OfficeProfessional phone and communication skillsPreferred2–3 years of purchasing or related experienceManufacturing or automotive manufacturing experienceExperience working with inventory and material planningExperience with QAD or other ERP systemsMicrosoft Excel and Word experienceTwo-year college degree in a related fieldAPICS certificationEQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER: Surge is an equal opportunity employer.
