Registered Nurse II - SJCH Peds Critical Unit

Job Description Summary Registered Nurse II Job Summary / Purpose Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results. Minimum Training and Education Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Physical and Mental Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking continuously. Ability to climb stairs (infrequent), work indoors (continuous), work outside in temperature extremes (infrequent), work from elevated areas (frequent). Ability to work in confined/cramped spaces, from kneeling positions (infrequent), bend at the waist (continuous), twist at the waist (frequent), squat (frequent). Ability to perform pinching operations, gross motor activities with fingers and hands (continuous), firm grasping, fine manipulation (continuous). Ability to reach overhead (frequent), perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders (continuous). Ability to fully use both legs, use lower extremities for balance and coordination (continuous), reach in all directions (continuous). Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted (infrequent), lift/lower objects 50 lbs from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted (infrequent), lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs (infrequent), exert up to 50 lbs of force (frequent). Ability to maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects, match colors, determine distance/relationship between objects, have good peripheral vision, maintain hearing acuity (continuous). Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations (continuous), work rotating shifts (frequent), work overtime as required (frequent), work in a latex safe environment (continuous). Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (continuous); selected positions may also require good olfactory function and respirator use (continuous). Additional Job Description Minimum requirements include a Bachelor of Nursing degree (preferred) unless the candidate is a current MUSC employee. Enrollment in an accredited BSN program within two years and completion within four years is required for RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with a two‑year Associate or Diploma degree in nursing. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross are required. Physical Requirements Ability to stand or sit for extended periods. Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for vitals, injections, physical exams. Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed. Visual acuity and color perception to read charts and monitors. Auditory ability to communicate and perceive alarms. Stamina and resilience to handle long shifts and stressful situations. Mobility to navigate clinical environments.
