Job Description

The Machine Builder assembles, positions, and final-builds custom industrial machinery and equipment in a manufacturing environment. This role involves interpreting blueprints, coordinating machine base placement, operating cranes and forklifts, and working closely with engineering to troubleshoot and resolve issues throughout the build process. The position focuses on building, testing, disassembling, and preparing equipment for shipment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Position machine bases and stage sub-assemblies to prepare for final assembly of custom industrial equipment.

• Coordinate machine base placement with other departments to align with space requirements, workflow, and production scheduling.

• Position bases and components according to detailed knowledge of the unit being assembled and per blueprint and engineering drawings.

• Use cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling devices to move, lift, and set materials and equipment safely and accurately.

• Perform final assembly of equipment according to engineering drawings and specifications.

• Assemble sub-assemblies using hand tools and related equipment to build complete machines.

• Work closely with engineers to resolve issues encountered during the build process and implement corrective actions.

• Troubleshoot newly assembled equipment at various stages of assembly to identify and resolve unforeseen mechanical or functional problems.

• Conduct checks throughout the assembly process to ensure equipment meets quality, performance, and safety standards.

• Routinely follow and promote safety practices to protect oneself and all other employees in the work area.

• Disassemble completed equipment as required and load machines and components onto trucks for shipment.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient and safe assembly operations.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of machine build or related manufacturing or industrial part-building experience.

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering drawings.

• Experience operating forklifts and/or overhead cranes in a manufacturing environment.

• Forklift certification and demonstrated ability to safely operate material-handling equipment.

• Ability to use hand tools and related equipment to assemble sub-assemblies and complete machines.

• Strong troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving issues on newly assembled equipment.

• Commitment to practicing safe work habits and following safety procedures at all times.

Work Environment

This role is based in a custom foundry equipment manufacturing facility with approximately 100 employees, serving a wide customer base across multiple industrial markets. The organization focuses on foundry mold and core making, sand processing, bulk material handling, automation, 3D ceramic printing, surface treatment, and surface technologies. You will work in a hands-on, shop-floor environment that involves assembling large, custom machines and equipment. The position operates on a first-shift schedule, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You will regularly use overhead cranes, forklifts, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments, and you will work around heavy machinery and industrial materials. The environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and craftsmanship in building high-quality, engineered equipment for industrial applications.

This is a Contract position based out of Grand Ledge, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
