LEAD FIREFIGHTER (PARAMEDIC/ HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNICIAN)

Summary You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (PARAMEDIC/ HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNICIAN) for NAS PENSACOLA. Responsibilities You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/ or large industrial complexes. You will perform hazard and risk assessment and conducts a complete incident analysis. You will conduct a methodical and systematic patient assessment/physical exam and determines the nature, extent, and seriousness of the patient's condition. You will lead a crew of three or more firefighters assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck. or airport rescue firefighting (ARFF) vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) controlling or extinguishing advanced fires involving structures, aircraft, and other complex hazards as a member of an organized fire department; 2) performing advanced rescue operations including vehicle extrication and confined space rescue; 3) providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) as a nationally registered Paramedic; 4) operating fire apparatus and communications equipment during emergency incidents; 5) controlling and mitigating complex hazardous materials incidents; and/or 6) participating in ongoing training in advanced firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical techniques. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I & II, Airport Firefighter, HazMat Technician, Driver Operator ARFF, Driver Operator Pumper, Driver Operator Aerial, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, and Fire Instructor I. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (NREMT-P) This appointment may be made permanent without further competition. Education Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. The employee is required to work a 72-hour week on a 48 hour on/ 72 hour off basis that includes weekends, and holidays. May be subject to recall. This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
