Advanced Practice Nurse

The Advanced Practice Nurse will provide comprehensive care to patients for the Pain and Anesthesia Perioperative Medicine Clinics (APMC) within the Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care at the University of Chicago. This position may float to offsite locations (Orland Park, River East, Crown Point, Ind). Candidates must have a current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.

Responsibilities include evaluating and managing surgical and procedural patients prior to their scheduled intervention, providing direct primary health care to patients in collaboration with supervising physician(s) and the multidisciplinary health team, assisting Anesthesiologists through organized instruction and supervised practice, conducting comprehensive or episodic health assessments, taking patient histories, conducting physical examinations, ordering appropriate laboratory tests, collaborating with and acting as liaison among the nurse, patient, family, physician, and community resources for coordination of patient care, actively pursuing required knowledge and skills for professional development, identifying and participating in quality assurance issues on the unit, and performing other related work as needed.

Minimum qualifications include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline. Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration is required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO) is also required.

Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree from an accredited school/college of nursing, previous clinical experience in an ICU setting, and current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
