Job Description

Our leading-edge Agile team in the engineering group is looking for a motivated and energetic Senior Software Engineer who is eager to learn and make big changes to our mission critical applications. You’ll have the opportunity to work with the engineering leads, product and design teams, as well as other developers to deliver applications which are scalable, secure, robust and highly performing. We adopt microservices architecture, distributed technologies, latest frontend frameworks and sophisticated monitoring tools.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate production-grade Python and Spring Boot applications and services, including APIs, microservices, and distributed backend systems.
• Build and evolve cloud-native applications designed to run reliably and scale in modern containerized environments.
• Develop agentic AI and Generative AI applications that integrate LLMs, tools, enterprise services, and business workflows.
• Deploy and operate services using technologies such as AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD platforms.
• Integrate AI services with existing enterprise APIs and microservices while maintaining clear service boundaries.
• Design services for scalability, resiliency, observability, security, and high availability.
• Monitor and improve production systems; troubleshoot complex issues.
• Participate in architecture and design discussions, code reviews, automated testing, production troubleshooting, and operational support.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and platform teams to take solutions from design through production.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building production applications.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python application development.
• Strong experience designing and building cloud-native applications and microservices.
• Strong understanding of backend engineering concepts including APIs, distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, resiliency, and application architecture.
• Experience developing backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar event-driven/messaging technologies.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including relational data modeling and application integration.
• Hands-on experience with AWS or another major cloud platform, along with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, logging, observability, security, and production support.
• Ability to independently own technical problems from design through production and communicate effectively across engineering and product teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related majors is REQUIRED
• Exposure to Generative AI technologies and use cases
• Hands-on experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and writes high-quality, testable code
• Comfortable working in a pair-programming (XP) environment

This role is a hybrid role associated with our Bay Area Office.

SquareTrade estimates the possible base compensation for this role, if hired in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, to be in the range : $160K - 190K
