Maintenance Planner - Packaging

OVERVIEW The primary role of the Maintenance Sr. Planner is to improve workforce productivity and work quality through prevention of potential delays and obstacles by proper planning and coordination of parts, machine time, and labor. The Sr. Planner is responsible for planning all maintenance work in the assigned area, coaching and developing other planners, and serving as the liaison between operations and maintenance concerning planned work during runtime and scheduled downtime. The role also ensures accurate file maintenance, reporting, and analysis of all work performed. DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Principal contact between the Maintenance department and the operations teams (refinery and packaging) Coaches other planners, evaluates performance, and addresses issues to improve overall team performance Assures requested work is needed and prioritizes based on business risk Prioritizes safety in work planning Recommends equipment for preventive maintenance programs Leads weekly meetings with Operations and Maintenance to discuss short‑term and long‑term needs Receives and screens approved work requests for clarity and detail Determines best approach for each request, consulting with relevant stakeholders as needed Obtains blueprints, drawings, manuals, and creates necessary documentation for the work order Arranges safety permits, hot work, confined space, etc. as part of the work package Estimates jobs, steps, required trades, and labor hours Identifies and orders necessary materials and critical items, entering them on the work order Verifies availability of parts, materials, and tools before scheduling Coordinates requisition of parts, materials, and tools and prepares complete kits Assembles and delivers work package documentation to area supervisors Reviews planner KPIs, creates action plans, and develops continuous‑improvement processes Maintains backlog files of work orders awaiting planning or scheduling with priorities and estimated completion dates Monitors work order progress, compliance, and schedule; evaluates performance metrics; provides documentation for reporting and closeout Develops standard job plans for recurring repair jobs (reference) Compares actual labor and material consumption against estimates and provides variance reports to stakeholders WORK EXPERIENCES 3+ years of maintenance planning and scheduling preferred Experience in a manufacturing environment with multiple crafts (mechanical, electrical, etc.) required Proficiency with CMMS or ERP for scheduling and planning required EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or GED required BS/BA degree in a related field from an accredited college/university preferred SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY Leads internal facilitation of planning and scheduling maintenance activities and coordinates contractor service efforts for planned activities CORE CAPABILITIES Works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Stores, and Purchasing personnel Adequate trade knowledge to estimate labor, materials, and visualize job execution Strong verbal and written communication, administration, mathematics, planning, and organization skills Ability to read blueprints and shop drawings Customer‑service orientation Ability to teach reliability best practices, condition monitoring, and precision methods Intermediate or better Microsoft Office skills Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays CORE COMPETENCIES Analytical Thinking & Decision Making – Identifies and understands trends and issues; connects data points through analysis to arrive at logical conclusions Results Orientation & Accountability – Takes accountability, identifies, executes, and drives actions to achieve desired results Problem‑Solving – Anticipates, evaluates, diagnoses, and resolves problems systematically and fact‑based Adaptability/Flexibility – Maintains effectiveness in varying environments and with different tasks, responsibilities, and people Effective Communication – Expresses ideas clearly and concisely, tailoring messages to the audience Establishes Trust – Builds confidence through honesty, integrity, and vulnerability Customer Orientation – Considers internal and external customers; proactively addresses concerns and needs Teamwork & Collaboration – Fosters a climate of commitment to a common vision and shared values through trust and cooperation Develops Others – Plans for growth, addresses performance issues, and achieves results through people LOCATION & BENEFITS Location: ASR Group – operates six sugar refineries in the United States and one each in Canada and Mexico, with additional facilities in England, Portugal, and Belize. Pay is based on qualifications and experience.
