Role Overview The Senior Scientist I – Analytical Chemistry is a senior-level technical expert responsible for leading complex chemical analyses and interpreting results that support quality control, product development, troubleshooting, and customer-facing initiatives for concrete and construction materials. The role serves as a technical authority in the isolation, characterization, and quantification of inorganic and organic compounds. Operating with a high degree of independence, the Senior Scientist I – Analytical Chemistry supports critical technical and business decisions, contributes to method development and validation, and mentors junior laboratory staff while collaborating closely with scientists, engineers, and cross-functional associates. Key Duties and Responsibilities Perform complex analytical testing using a range of techniques, including but not limited to: HPLC, GC, GC-MS, FTIR, UV-Vis, SEC, thermal analysis, particle size analysis, and microscopy. Develop, validate, and maintain analytical methods for raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products. Provide accurate and timely analytical results, reports, and interpretations to internal stakeholders. Identify and characterize unknown organic and inorganic(cementitious) compounds, especially in support of Field Service, Manufacturing, and Product Development. Ensure strict adherence to accepted standards. Maintain laboratory instruments, perform routine maintenance, and troubleshoot issues with hardware/software. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (R&D, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales) to resolve technical challenges and support new product development. Lead or participate in client meetings, audits, and provide technical consulting for external stakeholders. Provide training and mentoring to junior staff on instrumentation, methodology, and safety practices. Must understand and follow all quality initiatives and processes as they pertain to job responsibilities Education and Experience Required: Master's or higher degree in Analytical Chemistry. Minimum 4 years of experience in an industrial analytical laboratory setting. Substantial experience in polymer characterization Substantial experience in extraction techniques and trace compound analysis Preferred Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry. Greater than 4 years of industrial analytical chemistry experience Skills and Knowledge Strong knowledge of analytical instrumentation and data interpretation. Expertise in method development/validation for organic and inorganic species Research and development expertise Cross-functional teamwork and leadership Technical documentation and data integrity Problem-solving and innovation Strong written and verbal communication Compliance and regulatory awareness Ability to mentor junior chemists, lead projects, and act as a technical point-of-contact. Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Travel Business travel as needed including overnight travel – less than 10% Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment.
