GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe City of New Carrollton Police Department is seeking dedicated, community-focused individuals to join our team as Police Officers. We are currently accepting applications for entry-level candidates enrolled in a certified police academy, recently graduated, as well as experienced/lateral officers who are already certified and have previous law enforcement experience.This is an exciting opportunity to serve a diverse community, uphold public safety, and contribute to a culture of professionalism, integrity, and service excellence.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITESEnforce local, state, and federal laws and ordinances.Respond to calls for service, emergencies, and incidents.Conduct investigations, interviews, and prepare detailed reports.Engage with community members to promote trust and safety.Patrol assigned areas by vehicle or on foot to deter and detect criminal activity.Participate in ongoing training and professional development.Testifies in motions hearings, court and other proceedings regarding arrests, reports taken, evidence recovered, and victims and others statements.Secures crime locations and detains witnesses to ensure evidence is not destroyed or contaminated.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEntry-Level Candidates:Must possess a High School Diploma or GEDMust be at least 21 years of ageMust possess a valid driver’s license in good standingMust be currently enrolled in a Maryland Certified Police Academy or have recently graduated within the last year at the time of applicationMust successfully pass a background investigation, physical, and psychological screeningExperienced/Lateral Candidates:Must possess a High School Diploma or GEDMust be at least 21 years of ageMust possess a valid driver’s license in good standingMust possess a current certification from the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC)Requires six months experience as a police officer, conducting law enforcement duties or closely related experienceMust successfully pass a background investigation, physical, and psychological screeningCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITSCompetitive salary: $59,986 – $71,304, based on experience and certificationComprehensive health, dental, vision, and life insurance on day 1Short-term & long-term disability insurancePaid vacation, sick leave, and holidaysRetirement and pension plansUniform allowance and equipment providedTake Home Vehicle Program (for eligible officers)Recruitment/Retention Incentive $5,000 (paid over time)Strong leadership supportOpportunities for career advancement, specialized assignments, and ongoing professional trainingHOW TO APPLYInterested candidates should submit an online application, a current résumé, and a copy of their MPCTC certification or confirmation of enrollment.Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.**All candidates considered for the position will be required to successfully pass a background investigation, physical, and psychological screening.**The City of New Carrollton is a Drug-Free Workplace.
