Work hours: 48 hours/week, Monday - Saturday, 8 hours/day, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Job Duties:

Crops/Commodities: Cattle.

Primary duties (performed the majority of workdays):

Performs any of the following tasks to attend to livestock: Checking fences daily, maintaining fences and clearing snow away from gates, feed bunks and waterers. Clearing snow from shelter areas to maintain access. De-icing water tanks and automatic waterers. Hauling water to cattle in remote pastures. Hauling feed to pasture cattle. Clearing feed bunks from accumulated snow and frozen fees. Clearing farm roads to provide access for milk hauler, feed and fuel deliveries. Clearing local roads to provide access for employees. Inspecting cattle for illness and injuries, treating or removing them as necessary. Sorting pasture cattle. Moving cattle to and from pasture. Maintaining doors, buildings and gates as affected by winter weather. Cleaning bedding and maintaining calf housing. Preparing equipment for spring field work. All primary duties are entry-level and require close supervision and/or a short demonstration of the task by a more experienced worker.

Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break.

Minimum Education Required

None. No High School Diploma or GED required.

Minimum Experience Required

2 months of experience working on a dairy farm required.

Outdoor work required when plants are wet, or during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures.

Temperatures in fields during working hours may vary.

Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations.

Work is done outdoors for long periods of time and requires prolonged periods of standing and/or walking, repetitive movements, and frequent bending and/or stooping.

Workers must be able to handle, lift, and carry heavy or bulky objects (product, containers) up to 60 lbs.

Employer requires drug screen post hire at employer's expense due to the liability of operating equipment. Employer requires background check post-hire and at the employer's expense due to the presence of children on the farm along with access to expensive tools and equipment.

Failure to pass drug screen and or criminal background check will result in termination of employment.

Job will require exposure to extreme temperatures.

Extensive walking or sitting is required.

Frequent stooping or bending over is required.

Repetitive movements are required.

Additional Compensation

Employer may offer, at its discretion, pay differentials, raises, bonuses, or other compensation to any seasonal worker employed under the contract. All additional pay shall be based on non-discriminatory individual factors, including but not limited to performance, skill, or worker tenure (i.e., years of service).

As required for all workers in Minnesota, hours worked in excess of 48 hours in a work week will be paid at the rate of 1.5 times the regular rate of pay.

Job Benefits

EMPLOYER ASSURANCES: Work guaranteed for 3/4 of contract period, starting with date of arrival at work site. Employer provides free housing for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Employer pays inbound transportation and subsistence to work site upon 50% completion of work contract for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of at least $16.78 per day during travel to a maximum of $68.00 per day with receipts (Updated 04/07/2026). Required work-related tools and supplies provided free of charge by employer.

Effective Jan 1, 2024, per MN State Statute, an employee will earn one hour of paid sick and safe time for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 48 hours of accrued Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) per year, provided the employee works a minimum of 80 hours in a calendar year.
