Who We Are

Cristo Rey Orlando High School is located in Orlando, FL, and is part of the national Cristo Rey Network. The school opened its doors to its inaugural freshmen class in the fall of 2025. Like all Cristo Rey schools, it is a Catholic, college preparatory high school for students of all faiths from families of limited financial means. The school is co-educational and serves students of diverse backgrounds. We help our students grow intellectually, academically, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and morally. Our aspiration is that all our students graduate from high school and college and become the future leaders in our churches, institutions, businesses, nonprofits, and the community at large.

This Role

Cristo Rey Orlando High School is seeking mission-driven Substitute Teachers to provide instructional continuity and classroom supervision in the absence of the assigned teachers. Responsibilities Include:

• Respond promptly to communications regarding substitute assignments
• Report to campus by 6:50 a.m. (or designated time) and collect schedules, lesson plans, and materials
• Implement lesson plans to ensure continuity of instruction and minimal disruption to learning
• Take attendance and complete required reports using school systems (e.g., Canvas, PowerSchool)
• Administer assignments, quizzes, and assessments as directed
• Maintain a structured, respectful classroom environment and enforce school policies, including uniform and conduct expectations
• Supervise students and ensure a safe and productive learning environment at all times
• Conduct homeroom responsibilities as assigned (attendance, prayer, Pledge of Allegiance)
• Attend liturgies and campus-wide gatherings as directed
• Remain with students until dismissal is complete
• Provide concise feedback to the regular teacher regarding student participation, behavior, and progress
• Report any serious incidents or concerns to school leadership

Perform other duties and support special projects as assigned by the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of an Associate Degree required.
• Must be over the age of 21.
• Successful completion of Safe Environment Training and required background screening.
• Demonstrated ability to manage classroom behavior effectively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow detailed lesson plans and instructions.
• Flexibility and adaptability across various subject areas.
• Reliability and punctuality in responding to assignments.
• Basic proficiency in computer use, email communication, and attendance reporting systems.

Preferred Experience and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
• Prior classroom teaching or substitute teaching experience.
• Familiarity with Canvas, PowerSchool, and classroom technology platforms.
• Experience working in faith-based or college preparatory school environments.

Compensation is up to $160 per day. This is a non-exempt, on-call position and is not eligible for benefits; however, employees may participate in the school’s 403(b) retirement plan in accordance with plan guidelines. Applicants should be prepared to provide references upon request.
